While star Rosie Perez said she'd be willing to appear in a sequel to Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), she hopes they avoid using ageist jokes.

Perez, who stars as Detective Renee Montoya in the DC Extended Universe film, spoke about the agest jokes in question during a recent interview with Uproxx. "Hopefully, there won’t be any ageist type of jokes in it as well," the actor said. "Having me called 'grandma.' That was the only thing, I was like, 'Really guys? Really?'"

Perez went on to comment that those same types of jokes likely wouldn't be made towards star Helen Mirren. "It is what it is, but you have to take the chance, be brave enough to call it out and be ready for the consequences," she continued. "I have been and I will be."

Birds of Prey debuted in Feb. 2020 as the eight-film set within the DC Extended Universe. The film showed Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn after previously debuting as the character in 2016's Suicide Squad. Meanwhile, director Cathy Yan stated that she'd like to do a Birds of Prey sequel, however, there is no word on official plans for one.

Directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hudson, Birds of Prey stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco and Ewan McGregor. The film is now available on digital HD Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and DVD. It is also available to stream on HBO Max.
