It has long been rumored that Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey film would be getting a slightly more involved title than just, well, Birds of Prey. Today, one of the film's stars, Margot Robbie, revealed the film's official title on her Instagram account. One problem: The film's title is so bonkers that no one knew she was being serious.

The official title of Yan's film is Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Robbie revealed the title on Instagram, the subtitle having been handwritten in pen on the script's cover, but it wasn't until The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the title that people realized the post was more than just Robbie having some fun.

Apparently, when the Birds of Prey film hits theaters in 2020, it will also be dealing with how Harley Quinn gains her freedom.

How exactly Harley Quinn is emancipated in the film remains to be seen, but the most logical answer would see her liberated from the Joker. This would keep the film in line with the character's more recent comic book arcs, which have progressively moved her away from being a sidekick to the Clown Prince of Crime, instead focusing on her transition to an antihero.

The film could also reveal how Harley gained her freedom from prison, as Suicide Squad was largely concerned with the doings of the titular top-secret back ops team that recruits supervillains for lawful missions. The film ended with Jared Leto's Joker breaking into the prison where Harley was being held and helping her to escape. The film could, then, simply deal with Harley assembling the Birds of Prey to take on the film's villain, Black Mask, portraying the assembly of that superhero team as a kind of freedom in itself.

However it ends up working out, it seems certain that the central star of the Birds of Prey film will be Harley Quinn. How the film's ensemble cast of talented actors will be worked into the character's story remains to be seen. The film beings shooting in January.

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rosie Perez. It is scheduled to be released on Feb. 7, 2020.
