These reports line up with previous rumors that Gotham City-based super-team has taken priority for Warner Bros. over a potential Suicide Squad sequel. The upcoming film's lineup is expected to include Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn joined by Batgirl, Huntress, and Black Canary. The DC Extended Universe team is rumored to take on the Penguin in their cinematic debut.

Director Cathy Yan was tapped to helm the Birds of Prey film after the studio was impressed by a script from writer Christina Hodson. While there have been no official announcements from Warner Bros., the project is reportedly deep in pre-production with casting announcements expected to be made in the near future.
