On Monday, the very first teaser for Warner Bros.' Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) debuted, giving fans their first look at such characters such as Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya and, of course, the return of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. However, one ambitious fan took it upon themself to inject the short clip with a small dose of Jared Leto's Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker.
The footage begins with scenes of Leto's Joker and Robbie's Harley Quinn from 2016's Suicide Squad before transitioning into shots of the new characters, but not before we hear Leto say, "where is she?" The clip then ends with one last shot of Joker torturing the pre-Harley Quinn Dr. Harleen Quinzel.
In June 2018, it was reported that Leto would reprise his role as The Joker in a standalone film spinning out of Suicide Squad. This project was said to be entirely separate from the currently-in-production Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix. However, with Phoenix's Joker film set to hit theaters in October and no word on the status of Leto's various Joker projects, his future in the DC Extended Universe remains questionable.
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ewan McGregor, Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, Francois Chau, Chris Messina and Matthew Willig. It is scheduled to be released on February 7, 2020.
