Warner Bros.' upcoming Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is expected to have an impressive opening weekend.

According to Deadline, the film is currently projected to open to $49-$55 million at the domestic box office. This puts Birds of Prey in roughly the same camp as Shazam!, which opened to $53.5 million in April 2019.

Birds of Prey's Harley Quinn made her DC Extended Universe debut in 2016's Suicide Squad. However, while that film opened to $133.68 million, it also had several box office advantages over Birds of Prey, including a more desirable release date (August versus February) and a more welcoming PG-13 rating. That said, Suicide Squad also had a fairly hefty estimated budget of $175 million as opposed to Birds of Prey's more modest $100 million, which could bode well for the film's overall profitability compared to its predecessor.

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ewan McGregor, Ella Jay Basco, Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, Francois Chau, Charlene Amoia, Chris Messina and Matthew Willig. The film arrives Feb. 7.
