Harley Quinn and her crew will soon take to the big screen in Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), and fans are devouring the influx of marketing materials in the leadup to the film's release. In doing so, many noticed Harley's dog tag, which reads, "Bruce," and as it turns out, this is actually the name of her pet hyena.

"She has a pet hyena who’s named Bruce," costume designer K.K. Barrett told Heroic Hollywood when asked about the dog tag, which was most prominently displayed in a photo shared by Margot Robbie in January. "That’s her pal… her bud. She has tamed an unusual pet." When pressed about the name's significance, Barrett was a little more coy, replying, "We’ll save that surprise for later."

Harley's hyenas first appear in Batman: The Animated Series and were originally named Bud and Lou after the comedy duo Abbot and Costello. They eventually made the leap to the comics and became an integral part of Harley's story. That said, little is known about how "Bruce" will factor into the film.

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ewan McGregor, Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, Francois Chau, Charlene Amoia, Chris Messina and Matthew Willig. The film is scheduled for release on Feb. 7, 2020.
