The DCEU’s Birds of Prey film is beginning to cast its eponymous ensemble and is now searching for an actor to play the superhero movie’s main villain to take on the team.
A rumored shortlist of potential actors to play the antagonist has since surfaced online with Variety reporter Justin Kroll tweeting that Ewan McGregor and Sharlto Copley are among the names mentioned. Previous reports mentioned that the film’s villain is expected to be Roman Sionis, better known to comic book fans as Black Mask.
Still have Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain's roles to cast as well as the crime lord up against the team. Hearing names like Sharlto and Ewan McGreggor are actors they like for the role but have only started meeting actors for that part https://t.co/OaVfpTfkyM

McGregor, most famous for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, had previously worked with Huntress actor Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the latest season of FX’s Fargo while Copley has starred in various genre films over the years including 2009’s District 9 and 2016’s Hardcore Henry.
Principal photography on the upcoming DC film is expected to begin in early 2019 for its February 2020 release date.
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script by Christina Hodgson, Birds of Prey stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. It is scheduled to be released on February 7, 2020.
