Warner Bros. and DC have found their Cassandra Cain for Birds of Prey in newcomer Ella Jay Basco.

According to Variety, Basco is currently in negotiations with the studio to take on the role of Cain in the girl-gang film. She'll join Margot Robbie, who is returning as Harley Quinn, as well as fellow DC newcomers, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Huntress and Black Canary, respectively.

Back in August, it was rumored Andi Mack's Peyton Elizabeth Lee was being considered for the role of Cain. However, the reports quickly died out and little to no news was provided until now. Unlike Lee, Basco is still a relative newcomer, having appeared in single episodes of shows such as Grey's Anatomy and Veep, making this a potentially huge breakout role for the young actress.

While little is known regarding the plot of the film at this time, it's expected that Cain will serve as a major part of the story, ultimately bringing together the likes of Quinn (Robbie), Huntress (Winstead), and Black Canary (Smollett-Bell) to take on the villainous Black Mask, set to be played by Ewan McGregor. Rosie Perez is also a member of the cast, portraying Gotham City police detective Renee Montoya.

As it stands, Birds of Prey is reported to be Rated R. Of course, that can always change prior to the film's official rating long after production has wrapped. For now, it appears the studio and creative team are sticking close to Robbie's vision -- meaning we should be in for an action-packed girl gang film.
