Even with all the fighting and bloodshed in Birds of Prey, the film's most uncomfortable moment revolves around Roman Sionis' deviant act against a woman. It was notably different in tone from the rest of the film and Cathy Yan believed that it needed to be there.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Yan stated, "I'll be honest: We had to fight to keep that scene because it was uncomfortable... It was risky, and we had to fight to keep it at all." She then revealed that there are cuts of the film without the scene, but its inclusion was important as a character-building moment. "I think it's a huge turning point for Roman; it's a huge turning point for Canary," Yan explained, going on to say that the scene was not filmed to be about the violent act against the woman per se, "It was more about Roman, what he's capable of and Canary seeing him for who he really is for the first time." Finally, Yan added, "Now, she can fully cut herself off from him, and I thought it was a really important scene. So, we fought for it."

The scene in question takes place in the Black Mask Club. Roman Sionis, played by Ewan McGregor, hears a woman laughing and becomes paranoid. In response, he suddenly forces her to perform a number of humiliating acts in view of a full nightclub.

Birds of Prey centers on Harley Quinn as she fully emancipates herself from her ex-lover Joker, and finds strength among powerful women. Although the film was released in theaters February, Birds of Prey has had an early release as a result of mass closures of theaters across the globe and is currently available for digital purchase.

Directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco and Ewan McGregor. The film is out on digital HD now.
