Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is in the middle of principal photography, but that didn't prevent Warner Bros. from showcasing footage from the film on Tuesday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

The studio's presentation to the National Association of Theatre Owners included a clip from director Cathy Yan's film, showing Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn joining forces with the titular female team of Gotham City superheroes. Following the brief preview, comments by the cast were shown to attendees.

"This is not Batman’s Gotham. It’s a scrappier Gotham," the cast explained in a recorded interview in which Rosie Perez, who portrays Renee Montoya, confirmed Birds of Prey won't pull any punches.

Perez's claim seemingly supports earlier reports of an expected R rating. For star and producer Robbie, the film and its title reflect a more irreverent take on Warner Bros.' so-called DC Extended Universe.

"I love long titles. It’s bat-shit crazy," Robbie declared.

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ewan McGregor, Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, Francois Chau, Charlene Amoia, Chris Messina and Matthew Willig. The film is scheduled to be released on February 7, 2020.
