As the adult incarnation of the Losers' Club is cast, Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård provided an update on It: Chapter 2's status and how it will differ from last year's hit horror film.
"It's going to be a very different experience this time around, just given the fact that you have all of these incredible, seasoned actors to play against, as opposed to having all the kids," Skarsgård explained in an interview with Den of Geek. "So it's going to be a different experience for sure. But I'm looking forward to it."
Jessica Chastain leads the all-star cast for the upcoming sequel as the adult Beverly Marsh, while James McAvoy and Bill Hader have been in talks to play Bill Denbrough and Richie Tozier, respectively. They are joined by James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Andy Bean as Stan Uris and Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom. That leaves only an adult Mike Hanlon to be cast for Chapter 2.
"We're gearing up for it now, so I'm sort of in the process of getting back into that character of Pennywise," Skarsgård added. "I’m sort of in the mindset and we're gearing up for it. I think they start in July. I'm not sure exactly when my start date is, but some time this summer."
Like the Stephen King novel it's based on, It: Chapter 2 is expected to take place thirty years after the events of the original film. When extra-dimensional monster It/Pennywise resurfaces in their hometown of Derry, Maine to prey on innocent children once again, the Losers' Club returns as adults to confront the fear-fueled creature one last time. Despite taking place in modern day with a predominantly adult cast, Skarsgård assures fans that the sense of fun that helped make the first film a hit will return.
"I have a very good relationship with Andy, not only as a director and actor, but also just as a very close friend, so we're having fun with it and we're figuring out what we're going to bring to the table for part two," Skarsgård said.
