Bill Sienkiewicz's "Dark Knight III" Variant Brings Heavy Horsepower

Bill Sienkiewicz has Batman horsing around in his newly-revealed variant cover to "Dark Knight III: The Master Race #1," part of DC Comics' retailer variant cover program in support of the highly-anticipated third installment of Frank Miller's "Dark Knight" series.

It's an image somewhat familiar to Bat-fans, echoing a famous scene in Frank Miler, Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley's original "Dark Knight Returns" in which Gotham's knight mounts a trusty steed in pursuit of justice. The atmospheric, equine alternate cover from industry legend Bill Sienkiewicz is available through Hypno Comics & Games in Ventura, CA.

The variant is the latest reveal from the whole line of alternate covers announced by DC, which includes contributions from Matt Wagner, Josh Middleton, Dave Gibbons, Lee Bermejo, Rafael Albuquerque, Tyler Kirkham, Klaus Janson and Eduardo Risso.

The sequel to the seminal "Dark Knight Returns" and its early 2000's follow-up "The Dark Knight Strikes Again," "Dark Knight III: The Master Race" is written by Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello, featuring art from Andy Kubert and frequent Miller collaborator Klaus Janson. "The Dark Knight III: The Master Race" #1 is scheduled for release on Nov. 25.
