Veteran comic book artist Bill Sienkiewicz has joined Jim Lee's daily sketch charity auction with a new piece starring the DC Comics supervillain Bizarro.
Lee shared Sienkiewicz's take on Bizarro World's mirror-image of Superman to Twitter. "Bizarro Superman by [Bill Sienkiewicz]!" the DC Comics Publisher wrote. "Pen and Ink on 9x12 [inch] board by the legendary comic book illustrator Bill Sienkiewicz; this amazingly kinetic and frenetic original piece of art was created and donated by bill to benefit comic shops in need via [Binc Foundation]." In a follow-up tweet, Lee made a correction regarding the artwork's size. "Please note this original art is 11x17 [inches] in size! Not 9x12 [inches]."
Created by Otto Binder and George Papp, Bizarro -- also known as El-Kal or Kent Clark -- first appeared in 1958's Superboy #68. Sienkiewicz's sketch features the villain letting out some aggression as he hits the ground, leaving a crater-like impact. The sketch is currently available on Lee's charity Ebay page. At the moment, the price on Sienkiewicz's sketch currently sits at $4,300 USD with two days left.
Lee's charity auction has been selling sketches to benefit the Book Industry Charitable Foundation as an effort to help comic book retailers dealing with financial difficulties during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In addition to Sienkiewicz, other veteran comics artists such as J. Scott Campbell, Arthur Adams, Tony Daniel, Ivan Reis and Bryan Hitch have joined Lee's charitable efforts by donating their sketches to sell.
