âThe Monster Among Menâ Braun Strowman defeated Goldberg to win the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 36 on Saturday night. The match lasted just over two minutes.Strowman wasnât even supposed to be in the bout against Goldberg, who had been champion since Super ShowDown in February. He was added earlier in the week after Roman Reigns, Goldbergâs original challenger, pulled out of the match due to health concerns and personal reasons related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The win is a long time coming for Strowman, and marks the first time heâs captured a heavyweight championship. It was only a few months ago that the 36-year-old former strongman managed to win his first singles title â the Intercontinental Championship.
Where Goldberg goes from here is uncertain, but itâs been a rollercoaster year for the Hall of Famer. He started 2019 with a poor performance against the Undertaker, followed it up with a quick beatdown of Dolph Ziggler and then later took out "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt to become Universal Champion.
As for Strowman, the big man is likely heading for a feud with Reigns, who is expected to be back at some point in the near future. It all just depends on what WWE decides to do in the wake of the COVID-19 situation.
