Created by David E. Kelly, Big Sky is based on The Highway book series by C.J. Box. The ABC series follows private detective Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) and ex-cop Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) as they search for two sisters who have been kidnapped by a truck driver in Montana. Big Sky premiered on ABC in November 2020 and was recently renewed for a third season.

Ackles is also set to star in Season 3 of Prime Video's The Boys as Soldier Boy, the first superhero manufactured by Vaught Industries in World War II. The character has been described by series creator Eric Kripke as "Homelander before Homelander." "When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream -- to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment," said Kripke when the role was announced. "As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he'll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can't wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys."

Kripke also created The CW's popular sci-fi drama, Supernatural, in which Ackles starred as Dean Winchester for 15 seasons. Ackles announced that he would be producing a Supernatural prequel series titled The Winchesters and will reprise his role as Dean as the series' narrator. The Winchesters received a pilot order from The CW in June, with Jensen and Daneel Ackles serving as executive producers through their production company Chaos Machine Productions. The series will be written by another Supernatural alum Robbie Thompson, who also served as a producer and writer on the original series.

Told from Dean's perspective, The Winchesters will focus on Sam and Dean Winchester's parents, John and Mary, in the early days of their "epic, love story," and will follow the two characters as they "put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world." John and Mary Winchester will be played by Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly, respectively.

Supernatural ran on The CW for 15 seasons, wrapping its 327-episode run on Nov. 19, 2020. All 15 seasons of Supernatural are currently streaming on Netflix. The Winchesters does not yet have a release date.
