Paramount+ announced the official release date of its original animated series Big Nate with its first official trailer.

The first eight episodes of Big Nate will air on Paramount+ on Feb. 17, with Jack Black appearing as a special guest star for the series premiere, titled "The Legend of Gunting." The animated original series is based on the best-selling children's books and a comic strip from author and cartoonist Lincoln Pierce, who served as a series consultant. A first look at the series will air Jan. 16 during halftime at Nickelodeon and CBS Sports' NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon.

Adapted from Pierce's books and comics, the Paramount+ series will be comprised of entirely original storylines. In the series premiere, Black will guest star as Brad Gunter, an accomplished prankster idolized by the main character, Nate Wright, a creative and mischievous sixth-grader bent on proving to everyone just how cool he is. The series will follow Nate and his friends as they navigate middle school, detention and their home lives with humor and style.

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, Big Nate was first announced in December 2020 and will star Ben Giroux as Nate Wright, Rob Delaney as Martin and Dove Cameron as Ellen. The first season of Big Nate will be comprised of 26 episodes overall and will debut in the U.S., Latin America, Canada and Australia.

The first eight episodes of Big Nate will become available on Paramount+ Feb. 17.
