The Netflix animated series scored two Emmy awards on the fourth night of the Creative Arts Emmy's. One was for Maya Rudolph in the Outstanding Character Voice-Over category. This served as Rudolph's first-ever Emmy win. It's also the first time this award has not gone to voice-over work done for a FOX animated program. Since the Outstanding Character Voice-Over category was created in 2014, the winners have hailed from FOX shows Family Guy or The Simpsons.

Writer/actor Ayo Edebiri was cast to voice Missy following the announcement that Jenny Slate would no longer play the biracial character on Big Mouth. In June, Netflix announced Slate was being recast with a Black actor at the suggestion of Slate herself in light of the Black Lives Matter movement. "At the start of the show, I reasoned with myself that it was permissible for me to play Missy because her mom is Jewish and White — as am I," Slate said. "But Missy is also Black, and Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people."

Slate will continue to voice Missy in most of the upcoming fourth season, with Edebiri taking over for the penultimate episode.

"By the time we made the decision to cast Ayo, we had finished all of Season 4 and delivered it to Netflix," co-creator Andrew Goldfarb explained. However, while there were no qualms about Edebiri replacing Slate, Goldfarb said he didn't want "Ayo to have to start her journey with this part by matching what Jenny did already. That’s not a way for her to make it her own."

Big Mouth is a 10-episode, half-hour edgy adult animated comedy from real-life best friends Nick Kroll (Kroll Show, The League) and Andrew Goldberg (Family Guy) about the glorious nightmare that is teenaged puberty. Comedian John Mulaney (John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid, Saturday Night Live) lends his voice to the character of Andrew, while Kroll (who serves as co-creator, executive producer) voices many including best friend Nick. Maya Rudolph (Maya & Marty, Bridesmaids), Jason Mantzoukas (The League, Lady Dynamite), Jordan Peele (Keanu, Key and Peele), Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Documentary Now!), Jenny Slate (Girls, Lady Dynamite) and Jessi Klein (Inside Amy Schumer) are among those who lend their voice to the series.

Big Mouth stars Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Jenny Slate and Fred Armisen, with Maya Rudolph and Jordan Peele. Seasons 1-3 are currently streaming on Netflix. Season 4 premieres Dec. 4.
