Disney XD prepares to return to San Fransokyo with the all-too-brief first teaser for “Big Hero 6: The Series.”
The playful 14-second promo depicts a Baymax cookie, which is quickly reduced to crumbs, revealing the show’s logo on the plate beneath. It ends with confirmation of the fall premiere.
Announced a year ago, the series picks up where Disney’s hit 2014 animated comedy left off, following Hiro, Baymax and their friends Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred and Go Go as they defend their city from scientifically enhanced villains.
Based on the Marvel Comics characters created by Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau, “Big Hero 6” centered on young robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who forms a superhero team to combat a masked supervillain terrorist. Disney’s first animated film using Marvel characters, it grossed $657.8 million worldwide, and earned an Academy Award for best animated feature.
Although the movie used 3D computer animation, the TV series will employ traditional 2D animation. Developed by “Kim Possible” creators Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, the show will feature the original voice actors Scott Adsit, Ryan Potter, Daniel Henney, T. J. Miller, Jamie Chung, Génesis Rodríguez, Alan Tudyk and Maya Rudolph. Khary Payton will replace Damon Wayans Jr. as the voice of Wasabi and Brooks Wheelan will replace T. J. Miller as Fred.
