Young Sheldon's season finale Thursday set the title character on the path to leave the nest and meet new people at college, something the persnickety genius would have some trouble doing. So how would the adult Sheldon Cooper, as depicted in The Big Bang Theory, fare in a world in which social distancing is recommended for everyone?

Steve Molaro, showrunner of Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory, told TVLine that the notorious germophobe would be in his element, "I think he would enjoy it." Molaro continued, "I think we said he [Sheldon] was social distancing when it was [still] called 'Who's the weird kid alone in the corner?'" citing his and Big Bang Theory co-creator Chuck Lorre's contribution to "If I Wrote a Coronavirus Episode" at Vulture, in which several TV writers mused on how their characters would fare during COVID-19 stay-at-home orders.

Throughout the 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon was shown to abhor physical contact. With a laugh, Molaro added, "He probably had already pre-hoarded a stockpile of Purell before this was even a national threat."

However, as comfortable social-distancing as Sheldon seemed to be before, Molaro added that the neurotic genius is chafing at having to be inside and figures an "indoor cat" like Sheldon "might also be suddenly struck with the idea that maybe outside isn't so bad."
