At the heart of The Big Bang Theory are four friends who are fascinated with comic books, sci-fi movies, television shows, board games, video games and everything pop culture. Over the comedy's 12-season run, Leonard, Sheldon, Raj and Howard talked, argued and theorized about their favorite subjects, from the DC Universe to the Star Trek franchise.

These conversations led to many laughs, but in one particular case, a discussion about horror-movie trends saw a surprising prediction about The Invisible Man that would come to fruition half a decade later.

The Big Bang Theory Howard

In the Season 8 episode "The Maternal Combustion," which aired in 2015, Raj and Howard are playing video games in the latter's living room. Howard brings up the subject of horror movies and their icons, recapping the latest trend in cinematic monsters. He explains that a while back, everything had something to do with vampires. While he doesn't mention any examples, he is referring to a fad that includes the likes of the Twilight franchise, The Vampire Diaries, Dracula Untold and more.

Then, after the vampires, Howard says the next pop culture hit were zombies, a trend that became extremely popular thanks in large part to The Walking Dead. After vampires and zombies, Howard then wonders what will come next, to which Raj  replies, "We haven't had a good Invisible Man in a while." Now, at the time, this served as a setup for a joke made at Stuart's expense, who follows-up by saying that he makes a perfect invisible man whenever he tries to talk to a woman. However, what fans didn't know at the time was how accurate Raj's prediction would ultimately become.

Released on Feb. 28, 2020, Blumhouse's The Invisible Man starred Elisabeth Moss as Cecilia Kass, a woman who was in an abusive relationship with a genius and eccentric scientist, Adrian Griffin. After she ran away from him, Adrian faked his death and began to psychologically torment Cecilia with an advanced suit that allowed him to turn invisible. The film was a twisted psychological thriller, and although it was made with a modest budget of $7 million, it became a critical and financial hit. It earned a 91 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, amassed over $130 million at the box office and after the coronavirus pandemic shut most theaters down, continued to be a success on-demand.

It's not exactly a fad yet, but Raj did manage to predict a return to prominence for the Invisible Man. With the success the film has garnered, a sequel is now in the works, which means the property is well on its way to becoming a franchise, something The Big Bang Theory saw coming years ago.

The Big Bang Theory aired on CBS from 2007-2019 and starred Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nuyyar, Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik. The show is currently streaming on HBO Max. Written and directed by Leigh Whannell, The Invisible Man stars Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Aldis Hodge, Harriet Dyer and Storm Reid. The film is available now on HBO Max.
