CBS passed on a Beverly Hills Cop TV pilot just a few short months ago, but that's not stopping Axel Foley from getting back on the street.

Deadline reports that a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie is once again in the works. Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are writing a new script for Paramount Pictures, with Eddie Murphy set to reprise his role as the displaced Detroit cop. It would be the first new installment in the action-comedy franchise since 1994.

Not long ago, Brett Ratner was attached to direct a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film. He's not mentioned in Deadline's new report, however, indicating that Paramount is looking in a new direction.

According to the outlet, interest in another Beverly Hills Cop movie owes thanks to the failed TV pilot from The Shield veteran Shawn Ryan. The pilot centered on Axel Foley's son, played by Brandon T. Jackson, with Murphy onboard for a smaller, cameo-sized role and as an executive producer. Paramount co-produced the pilot with Sony Pictures TV, and apparently still has enough interest in the franchise to pursue a movie.
