Archie Comics' favorite blonde is getting the final girl treatment in an all-new horror story.

Chilling Adventures Presents... Betty: The Final Girl is slated to introduce the Archie Comics universe to the world of horror anthologies as the one-shot brings together writers Micol Ostow, Casey Gilly and Sam Maggs with artists Laura Braga, Natalie Nardozza and Carola Borelli for three stories each featuring one of Riverdale's leading ladies. This love letter to the slasher genre and final girl trope is set to be framed by Ostow and Braga's "Rosemary's Babysitter," which finds Betty invited to a secluded mountain chalet by none other than longtime friend and romantic rival Veronica. The events of "Rosemary's Babysitter," which CBR can exclusively preview, will lead into Gilly and Nardozza's "Be Mine or Die," as well as Maggs and Borelli's "Melody's Next," each of which pays its own clear homage to another horror classic such as 2011's You're Next.

  • Veronica has invited Betty to her luxurious mountaintop chalet for a cozy weekend of skiing. But their girls weekend is interrupted when Archie shows up and whisks Veronica off on their own snowy romantic adventure. What could go wrong at a fancy remote cabin in the mountains all by herself? Betty’s mind races and she can’t tell fact from fiction as she suddenly realizes she might not be so alone. Is Betty believing too much in the horror movies she’s watched, or is someone (or something) really out to get her? Find out in this BRAND NEW horror anthology one-shot that‘s equal parts Scream and When a Stranger Calls.

Ostow said of the one-shot, "Working with Laura was a dream come true! I first fell in love with her art style in BLOSSOMS 666. It felt incredibly distinct to me, very contemporary and unique, but still elegant and soft, referential to classic children's book illustrations with their mix of grace and formality. I think Jamie said something similar in another interview, that Laura's line work captures beauty and horror in equal measures, and I think that's exactly right."

Archie Comics Senior Director of Editorial Jamie L. Rotante said of the title's development, "I'm thrilled to work with all the lovely ladies on this title. Micol has now cemented her place in the Archie world, working on everything from our Riverdale original graphic novel, to our middle-grade horror comic Fear the Funhouse. She's developed a great voice for these characters, and she's especially wonderful at the interplay between Betty and Veronica. We're so happy to have Laura Braga back on art, as she's amazing at handling both the most beautiful and most brutal scenes—case in point, her amazing work on BLOSSOMS 666."

On the subject of Braga and Hutchison's cover art for the issue, Archie Comics Art Director Vincent Lovallo said, "Having the opportunity to work with the super-talented Laura Braga on her portion of Betty the Final Girl, written by the exceptional Micol Ostow, has been such a joy. Laura brings both Betty and the eerie mountain cabin setting to life with a sense of precision and elegance that immediately pulls you in. Looking over each page, I noticed certain details Laura would include like the crown molding in a dining room, or the folds on a character's jacket. These seemingly little details all come together in a big way and really help immerse the reader into this world. It's as if you're tagging along with Betty rather than just watching from a distance."
