AMC released a new trailer for Season 6 of Better Call Saul.
The new trailer previews the final chapter in public defender Jimmy McGill's transformation into the criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. The trailer also previews new developments for the drug and fried chicken kingpin Gus Fring, played by Giancarlo Esposito, and private eye Mike Ehrmantraut, portrayed by Johnathan Banks. "Whatever happens next, it’s not going to go down the way you think it is," warns Ehrmantraut.
The final season of the series was originally set to premiere in 2021, but has faced multiple delays: the first of which was due to production issues caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns. Production on the show was further delayed in July 2021, after star Bob Odenkirk suffered a severe heart attack while filming the show. Odenkirk returned to film the rest of the season in September 2021.
Better Call Saul serves as a prequel to AMC's hit Breaking Bad, which concluded in 2013. In the original show, Saul Goodman is introduced in the second season as the sleazy lawyer who helps teacher-turned-drug kingpin Walter White and his assistant Jesse Pinkman avoid their legal troubles. The prequel series begins in 2002, and shows how Saul transformed from a down on his luck lawyer working out of the back of a nail salon to a flamboyant attorney with deep connections to Albuquerque's criminal underworld.
While Saul's origin story is coming to an end, fans of the series can still look forward to two spinoffs that AMC is also producing. The first, Slippin' Jimmy, is an animated series that delves even further into Jimmy McGill's past. Each episode of the cartoon will be based around a different genre and will be show exclusively on AMC's streaming platform. The show is being produced by Rick and Morty's Starburns studio and features a story by Better Call Saul writers Ariel Levine and Kathleen Williams-Foshee. The second spinoff, entitled Cooper's Bar, focuses on Lou Mustillo's character and details the exploits of the patrons of his neighborhood bar.
AMC will release the series final season in two parts: The first half, which will comprise the first seven episodes of the season, will premiere on April 18 with two back-to-back episodes. The remaining six episodes will air after a short break, with Part 2 premiering on July 11.
