When it comes to VR, most would agree that the concept is cool. Who wouldn't want to be fully immersed in a world brought to life by the Oculus or PSVR? It's why the concept has been in the minds of gamers for decades, never really finding its niche until a few years ago. The one sore spot is how expensive everything is.

It's one thing to drop 400-500 dollars on a new console that will get played for a decade or more. But quite another to spend over 300 dollars on something that has a limited number of games that are worthwhile. While the VR video game catalog is lacking, some are worth the money.

10 Beat Saber Is The Most Fun Rhythm Game Since Rock Band

Sometimes, a simple concept can be a great one. That's the case with Beat Saber, which plays like most rhythm games, except they also involve lightsabers. The sabers are used to help hit the notes while the user has to duck and move around obstacles to avoid losing points. The song choices in the game are on point, and it provides a great experience. Beat Saber is what every game should strive to be - fun.

9 Half-Life: Alyx Has The Best Story Of Any VR Game

The headcrabs in Half-Life 2

Half-Life: Alyx isn't the sequel many fans have been longing for, but that doesn't change that it's an amazing game that's often lauded as the best VR game in existence. The environments are beautiful, pushing imagery beyond what most VR games do, and the gravity gloves work seamlessly in VR. The real selling point is the story, one that's riveting and helps bridge the gap between Half-Life & Half-Life 2.

8 Trover Saves The Universe Feels Like It Belongs In The Rick & Morty Universe

Glorkon Takes Your Dogs Trover Saves The Universe

Given that the game was developed by Justin Roiland of Rick & Morty fame, it's not surprising that it feels similar to the immensely popular show. The plot is rather wild, following a chairorpian as he tries to stop Glorkon from ending the universe after he sucked the energy out of the main character's dogs.

7 Vader Immortal Fleshes Out Star Wars Lore & Delivers A Fun Lightsaber Battle

Any fan of Star Wars has heard of Vader Immortal, a three-episode series of games that each progressively get better. It's one of the few VR games that has an engaging story, placing the player into the shoes of a smuggler descendent of Lady Corvax. It delves into the lore of Mustafar and has an entire cast of characters who are all well-acted. The big selling point is clearly Darth Vader, and his moments on-screen don't disappoint, especially when you get to duel him.

6 Defector Feels Like You Are The Star Of An Action Film

Fist Fight In Defector VR Game

The premise of Defector was always to make you feel like you are Tom Cruise in the movie Mission Impossible, and it manages to recreate the thrills of those movies. The player takes control of a spy who's able to fistfight against bad guys, blow things up, and jump out of airplanes in daring escapes. The story is a little flimsy, but that can be forgiven for how cool it feels to be the star of your own action movie. It begs to be replayed, offering branching points in the story that lead to different events.

5 Space Pirate Trainer Feels Like An Old Arcade Game Come To Life

There's nothing fancy about Space Pirate Trainer, and that's why it works. It feels like an old arcade game where you constantly click away at the trigger without caring about the story.

Space Pirate Trainer does away with having a weak storyline and instead has the player take control of a pirate on a platform who has to shoot at waves of drones coming towards them. It's a simple concept that works, despite being one of the earlier VR titles.

4 Arizona Sunshine Is A Fun Zombie Shoot-em Up

Arizona Sunshine doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, giving the typical zombie survival experience in a VR format. Most of the campaign is similar, starting with a small horde until an objective is cleared, and then a larger horde arrives. It can be played in both single-player or with others, but the real fun of the game is playing the horde mode with friends. It's an experience that harkens back to games like House of Dead or other fun shoot-em-ups.

3 Star Trek: Bridge Crew Is A Rare, Well-Made Multiplayer Game

Multiplayer games and VR don't tend to go hand in hand unless chat systems like VR chat count. Most of the ones that try are far from good, making Star Trek: Bridge Crew special. It's a simple concept where four people help take control of the Enterprise, taking on the roles of captain, tactical officer, engineer, and helm officer. Each of them has a different role to play, making communication between all four necessary. It's a good game to play with friends if your a Trekkie.

2 Astro Bot: Rescue Mission Is One Of The More Well-Rounded Games On The Market

Among the titles in PSVR, none of them come close to the greatness of Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. The use of a virtual controller seems strange at first and makes it seem pointless as a VR title, but that's far from the truth. The controller allows players to use gadgets rather than move, giving it a mix of a traditional platforming experience and a VR one. It works exceptionally well and is one of the more well-rounded games on the market.

1 Farpoint Delivered On Fun Gunplay & A Vast Environment

Farpoint promised to push VR shooters to new heights, and while it didn't necessarily accomplish that, it did create a genuinely fun experience for those with PSVRs. The game's gunplay is rather fantastic, and it offers an environment that's vast by VR standards. There's plenty of movement freedom, and it offers a planet worthy of exploring. The music used in the background also helps build up the atmosphere of the game.
