Thor is one of the original Avengers in the MCU. First appearing in the movie Thor as an Asgardian outcast, he would later return to Earth when his brother, Loki, started causing trouble with the Mind Stone. Since then, Thor has been a hero on Earth and in space, protecting the Nine Realms and helping out the Avengers against faceless armies.

Today, we're going to take a look back at Thor's growth throughout the MCU franchise. Here are the best Thor quotes from all of his movie appearances. There will be some spoilers for Avengers: Endgame.

Updated August 22nd, 2020 by Morgan Austin: With so much excitement and curiosity surrounding the upcoming Marvel movie, Thor: Love & Thunder, many fans wonder what role Chris Hemsworth will play in its story since Natalie Portman's character, Jane Foster, is supposed to become Thor next. It will be exciting to see this comic storyline appear in the movies. While fans wait for more news to come out about this new film, it feels appropriate to revisit some of the lines that made Thor a favorite among fans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

15 PLEASE KIND SIR DO NOT CUT MY HAIR

In Thor: Ragnarok, Stan Lee's cameo also gives us a hilarious Thor moment. Right before Thor's fight with Hulk, he's forced to get a haircut, and Stan Lee is Thor's barber. At first, Thor tries to sound intimidating before Stan Lee presses a button that makes even more blades come out of the hair-cutting contraption on his hand.

Instantly, Thor's persona drops and he meekly pleads "Please kind sir, do not cut my hair." Not only is it funny to see this shift in demeanor from Thor, but it's also a great Stan Lee cameo for the movie.

14 I KNEW IT

Captain America wielding Mjolnir for the first time in Endgame

One of the highlights of Avengers: Endgame was the scene when Captain America calls Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, during their final fight with Thanos. While audiences had to pick their jaws off the floor, Thor uttered the iconic line that seemed to speak for everyone: "I knew it!"

Not only was this line both funny and relatable, but it was a good connection to the scene from Avengers: Age of Ultron when Mjolnir slightly moves when Steve tries to lift it. It was a great full-circle moment that was made perfect with Thor's memorable line.

13 I NOTICED YOU COPIED MY BEARD

While Thor got a haircut in Thor: Ragnarok, Captain America grew a beard by the time fans see him in Avengers: Infinity War. When Thor joins in to help fight in Wakanda, he and Captain America both make comments on their new appearances.

After Cap asks Thor if he got a haircut, Thor replies with "I noticed you copied my beard," much to the delight of fans who thought the line was hilarious. It was a great way to make a joke about Steve's change in appearance, especially when this is the only Marvel movie where he has a beard for the whole film.

12 THE ASGARDIANS OF THE GALAXY BACK TOGETHER AGAIN

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thor chooses to not stay on Earth, and instead wants to travel with the Guardians of the Galaxy. When he joins them, Thor says "Well, the Asgardians of the Galaxy back together again!"

While this would be seen as a pun to many viewers, some fans might know that Marvel does have a team called the Asgardians of the Galaxy. This could just be a cool reference, but in the future, it's possible that Marvel might want to bring this team to the big screen as well.

11 I NEED A HORSE

In the first Thor movie, our hero marches into a pet store and loudly announces "I need a horse!" When the clerk informs him that they don't have any and lists some smaller pets that he could choose from, Thor doesn't really understand and says "Then give me one of those large enough to ride."

While it's funny in general to see how little Thor understands about how humans make it through daily life, looking back, it's also a good, short scene that still shows his character development in later movies. Thor used to be much more entitled and rude, but he grew to be a more compassionate person, even if he still is a bit too blunt occasionally.

10 I HAVE NO PLANS TO DIE TODAY

In the first act of Thor, we see the God of Thunder as an arrogant, hotheaded prince who is trying to become king. He decides to take his friends to Jotunheim to directly fight the Frost Giants against his father's wishes.

At the Bifrost, he speaks with Heimdall about his trip, who warns him that it will be dangerous. Thor responds by saying, "I have no plans to die today." This line says a lot about Thor's own self-esteem at the start of the movie. He thinks very highly of himself and will rush into every battle because of how much he believes he'll always win.

9 TAKE MINE AND END THIS

Thor is a movie about changing one's ways. Thor starts the film as an annoying, entitled brat and leaves it a much more mature, humble man. Throughout the film, he's trying to be worthy of Mjolnir, which he fails at. It's not until the climax when the hammer finally returns to him.

Loki, by use of the Destroyer, is attacking Thor and his friends. Afraid that his friends will lose their lives, Thor offers his own, saying to Loki, "So take mine, and end this." This line was a clear shift in Thor's character, showing the audience that he had changed.

8 HE'S ADOPTED

Thor's second MCU appearance was in The Avengers when he worked with Earth's Mightiest Heroes for the first time. Because Loki was the one causing trouble, Thor's personal experience proved to be extremely helpful.

The rest of the team was speaking very poorly of Loki, to which Thor got offended, due to them still being brothers. Black Widow responds with, "He killed 80 people in two days." Thor answers with an awkward, "He's adopted." From an early age, it was clear that Loki was different from his brother, and Thor realizes that as well. It's unfortunate that the two could never get along.

7 I'D RATHER BE A GOOD MAN THAN A GREAT KING

Thor: The Dark World isn't the most exciting MCU movie, but it does have a few important moments for Thor's character. Arguably his best quote in the film comes at the end. While Thor has redeemed himself from his first movie, he still has reservations about becoming King of Asgard.

He speaks to Odin and tells him, "I'd rather be a good man than a great king." There are many more things he can do for the Nine Realms by flying around the cosmos and stopping threats than if he were sitting in a chair for the rest of his life.

6 YOU'RE ALL NOT WORTHY

Perhaps the best scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron is when the team is all together, seeing if any of them can lift Mjolnir. Not only does it give us a brief glimpse at each of the characters' personalities and problem-solving skills, but it also sheds light on how much personal work it takes to be worthy of Thor's hammer.

A few of the team jokes that the hammer is just a cheap trick or that it has fingerprint scanners after not being able to lift it. Thor responds triumphantly with, "I have a simpler one. You're all not worthy."

5 THAT'S WHAT HEROES DO

Thor: Ragnarok proved to be a dramatic shift for Thor. After being a largely stagnant character, he was a bit lighter and more fun thanks to his time with the Avengers. At the start of the movie, he busts out of Surtur's bindings to knock the crown off his head because "That's what heroes do."

Being a hero is a theme throughout Thor: Ragnarok, with all of the core supporting cast not wanting to help take back Asgard. Valkyrie already had PTSD because of fighting Hela years ago. Banner doesn't want to turn into the Hulk again. And Loki is Loki.

4 I THOUGHT THE WORLD OF YOU, LOKI

Thor-Loki-Ragnarok

Despite being a (mostly) improv comedy, Thor: Ragnarok still has time for touching moments. When Thor and Loki are leaving Sakaar, they spend a little time in an elevator, where the two of them share what's on their minds. Thor says to his brother, "I thought the world of you, Loki."

He then talks about how he thought the two of them would've traveled the Nine Realms, fighting side by side until the end of time. It was a great line that showed how much Thor still cared for his brother but knew that their paths were always going to diverge.

3 ALL WORDS ARE MADE UP

Starting in Thor: Ragnarok, Thor had a lot of funnier quotes due to a shift in writing. This shift was carried over into Avengers: Infinity War, where Thor met up with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

When he states that he has to go to Nidavellir to create a new weapon, Drax says, "That's a made-up word." Thor, without looking at him, retorts, "All words are made up." Such a quick and genuine line is hilarious and memorable. Because the movie never takes time to dwell on it, it makes it even more enjoyable than if the line had been drawn out.

2 WHAT MORE COULD I LOSE?

At the start of Avengers: Infinity War, Thor had essentially lost everything that ever meant anything to him. The rest of his people, his brother, and his best friend were killed by Thanos. That's why he makes it his goal to forge a new weapon specifically to kill the Mad Titan.

Rocket talks to him, concerned that his plan won't work. Rocket thinks he'll lose, but Thor is determined. After reflecting over everyone and everything he lost, he says with tears welling in his eyes, "What more could I lose?" Thor hits rock bottom in Infinity War, and this line conveys it perfectly.

1 I WENT FOR THE HEAD

At the start of Avengers: Endgame, Thor is blaming himself for Thanos wiping out half the universe. After all, it was his desire for revenge that prevented him from killing Thanos when he had the chance. Seeking revenge with the rest of the team, Thor travels with them to Thanos' farm, where they interrogate him about the location of the Infinity Stones.

After they figure out Thanos had destroyed the Stones, Thor has enough of his words. He swings his ax and cuts off the Mad Titan's head. When Rocket asks, "What did you do?", Thor responds with a troubled, "I went for the head." It was a nice callback to Infinity War as well as a hint at what Thor's arc would be in the film.
