With the closed alpha now out of the way for MultiVersus, the hype and excitement for the full release are well underway. Developed by Player First Games and published by Warner Bros., MultiVersus is a platform fighter that has immense potential. It has its sights set on becoming its own entity, beyond simply being a clone of Super Smash Bros.

It may still be early days, but there have already been features and concepts introduced that have been well-received. The closed alpha and the beta will serve as a means to gauge what they need to improve on, but there are several early signs that Player First Games may well be onto a winner with MultiVersus.

10 Everything To Do With Online Play Is On Point

MultiVersus Available Game Modes

MultiVersus has already shown multiple signs of being dedicated to providing players with a perfect platform fighter experience. One length Player First Games appears to be taking is establishing a dedicated server-based rollback netcode. This will eliminate delays that have so often plagued the online experience in games of this ilk.

Online gameplay looks very similar to playing offline against bots, meaning that players can put all of their focus into their own game without having to worry about a delay. The game also supports cross-platform and cross-progression, and ticks many boxes to meet what players want from their online experience.

9 The Roster Prospects Are Exciting And Intriguing

The Stacked Character Roster In MultiVersus

The MultiVersus closed alpha brought 15 playable characters for players to try out. These were well-received but the Warner Bros. properties have now opened the door for countless more potential introductions in the future. Super Smash Bros. has always had a stacked roster, but MultiVersus can certainly aim as high with the franchises it can pull from.

With it already having characters from Looney Tunes, DC, Cartoon Network, and even Game of Thrones, this roster could become the most fun and random mixture of fighters the genre has ever seen.

8 Perks Allow For Different Ways To Play

The inclusion of perks is a genius addition to a platform fighter. Gone are the days when a player would like a certain character but would be restricted to playing a singular role with them. Equipping up to 3 regular perks and a signature perk allows for different dynamics to be brought to every single character.

Scooby-Doo's Velma is labeled as a supporting character, but a player who is more than capable with button-mashing offense could line up an array of perks that would help their playstyle. Velma could then be turned into an offensive machine while also offering buffs to her teammate. This freedom to mix and match with perks has exciting potential.

7 Costume And Skin Variations Are Going To Add To Extensive Customization

Shaggy Outfit Choices In MultiVersus

The costumes, skins, and the general presentation of characters look slick and impressive. The default outfits are as expected, being what the specific character is known for wearing, but the unlockable outfits and skins turn things up a notch.

It is another step towards ensuring that characters do not turn stale, as some Super Smash Bros. characters arguably have over the years. Introducing new variations of the original cast will be an effective way of keeping every playable character on the MultiVersus roster relevant and fresh.

6 Cooperative Mechanics Mean Something And Encourage Elements Of Strategy

Co-op Play In MultiVersus

Player First Games have not shied away from bragging about their commitment to cooperative play in MultiVersus. This seemed great as words but the alpha showcased that this will also be great in practice. Every single character has moves that can be applied to work in tandem with a teammate.

This ranges from physically moving them out of harm's way to offering them a buff to help them out of sticky situations. With enough research and application, co-op moves can be the difference between victory and defeat.

5 Ringouts And Other Cosmetics Are The Icing On The Cake

The cosmetics on offer don't stop at character skins and outfits. Players can unlock and experiment with all sorts of other aesthetically-pleasing features. This includes emotes for each character to use and a ringout theme to appear when eliminating an opposing player.

These range from Game Of Thrones house banners to the Looney Tunes "That's all folks!" Players can even unlock commentator variations, so their favorite characters can turn into an announcer. These little additions help the complete package of MultiVersus.

4 It Is A Free Game That Will Not Be Ruined By Its Microtransactions

The Main Menu In MultiVersus

MultiVersus will be free-to-play, which is great news for fans of platform fighters. This would normally bring concerns regarding microtransactions and how this could affect the online scope of this game, but this is not necessarily the case with MultiVersus.

Player First Games have made it clear how passionate they are about their game, so for microtransactions to threaten this would make no sense. The closed alpha has shown that an in-game currency can be earned through persistent gameplay. This currency is spent to unlock characters and perks. Microtransactions will likely focus on cosmetics such as certain skins and outfits, but there is nothing to say that these won't also be accessible for purchase by the in-game currency.

3 Player And Character Progression Adds So Much To The Overall Experience

Batman Character Progression In MultiVersus

Progression feels like a real concept in MultiVersus. Not only can players level up characters individually and unlock unique features as they go, but they can also level up as a player.

Between the battle pass and daily and seasonal objectives, there is plenty to keep players motivated to try out different characters, loadouts, and techniques. It helps to encourage players to keep playing, especially when they have enticing rewards to obtain upon completion.

2 Iconic Voice Actors And Character Gimmicks Add So Much To MultiVersus' Overall Authenticity

The characters and the potential full extent of the roster have already been talked about extensively since the release of the closed alpha. However, it really deserves to be highlighted how much care Player First Games has taken in delivering a truly authentic experience.

It is one thing to introduce these fun characters from different universes, but it is another to bring them to life with their iconic voice actors. Every character is completed with their movesets representing known references, gimmicks, and jokes from their respective franchises. Arya Stark being voiced by Maisie Williams and having a move that steals faces will make the character's inclusion all the more exciting for fans of Game Of Thrones. This is only one example of many.

1 The Customization Features Make Every Character Tolerable And Usable To Some Degree

Pro Gameplay Showcase In MultiVersus

It still remains to be seen how much of a competitive scene MultiVersus will get in comparison to that of Super Smash Bros. However, the closed alpha did encourage highly-skilled players and pros of other platform fighters to get together and see what they thought.

The closed alpha was perfect for seeing which characters need buffs or nerfs, but every character appeared to receive positive feedback in one way or another. There are multiple ways to play every character, meaning that there are very few limitations to creativity. The perks make it so that - besides the certain loadouts that will inevitably break through the meta - very few players will play their characters in the same way.
