The universe of Outlaw Star some of the most eclectic spaceships.

The sci-fi anime, Outlaw Star, first appeared in January of 1998. Prior to Outlaw Star, Space Hero Tales began serialization in the late ’80s and takes place in the same universe as well as the series, Angel Links. Since then, it has garnered a cult following, and for good reason. The creators really thought outside of the box when it came to the futuristic world-building of this series. For example, at the beginning of almost every episode, the narrator will give a brief monologue about the world the main protagonist, Gene Starwind inhabits. Some sci-fi series worlds often get vaguely explored.

To get more specific, in one episode, the narrator explains the history behind the grappler's arms for the spaceships. This is important information seeing that throughout the series, many of the spaceships encompass grappler arms, primarily for combat. In fact, these spaceships are one of the components that drive the series. So, without further ado, here are ten of the best ships in the universe of Outlaw Star.

10 Fortuner

Before the events of Outlaw Star and Angel Links, there were Space Hero Tales. The story entails a boy named Juji Thomas Godoh who receives a spaceship known as Fortuner, from his grandfather, Roger Fortune.

His grandfather was the former captain of the ship. Many deem him as a legend, which means the Fortuner has a lot of lineages.

9 Horus

Hilda’s ship, Horus, is a magnificent ship. For starters, it manages to fend off multiple pirate ships, during its escape from Blue Heaven. Horus is operated by an A.I, just like many of the other ships in Outlaw Star.

Not only that, but the ship is also so fast, it’s able to outrun the Orta Hone Hone, which is a military ship. The Horus is also able to fight off a very powerful ship that’s operated by the Kei Pirate Guild. Lastly, the ship comes equipped with essentials such as anchoring hooks, a drop-ship, and missiles.

8 Orta Hone Hone

A little information about this ship is given in the last entry about it being a military ship. However, many may not know the Orta Hone Hone is owned by the Ctarl-Ctarl empire. Moreover, the captain of this ship is nonother than Asia Clan-Clan, who later becomes a member of the Outlaw Star.

Since its a military ship, it comes equipped with the best weaponry. The ship can shoot multiple targets simultaneously, as witnessed in episode 3 of the series.

7 Torarato

The ship in this entry has the most creative mechanics one will ever see in Outlaw Star. The Torarato, operated by Hanmyo of the Anten Seven and two cats, is a ship that requires three minds synchronized together, for it to function.

This gives off a serious Voltron vibe. Torarato also encompasses the ability to separate into three separate ships. The Outlaw Star nearly parishes the first time it encounters this ship.

6 El Dorado

Known as the fastest ship in the galaxy by the MacDougall brothers, El Dorado is a top contender for this list. Judging by the ship's appearance, many believe this golden ship to be a relic, as opposed to other advanced spaceships. Well, looks can be deceiving. The El Dorado possesses four grappling arms, as seen when the younger MacDougall brother was piloting it. Many outlaw and pirate ships only possess two.

El Dorado is equipped with missiles, as well. To add insult to injury, the MacDougall brother has the second ship just like this one called Shangri La, that only the oldest, Ron MacDougall pilots.

5 String 4

String 4 is an intergalactic spacecraft used by the Private Security Force. This ship is not only seen in Outlaw Star but in Angel Links, as well. The Private Security Force specializes in taking down terrorism throughout the galaxy. Duuz Delax Rex (pictured), is the tactical officer of the String 4 and he is adamant about eradicating space pirates.

As far as weaponry goes, String 4 comes equipped with some of the most advanced weaponry. In addition, the ship is massive, and it encompasses hold cells for criminals. Gene and his crew were once apprehended by Duuz.

4 Kei Pirate Ship

One Piece isn't the only series with pirates. Many pirate ships pale in comparison to the Kei Pirate ship. It’s capable of producing multiple grappler arms, small ships with grappler's arms, and separating the ship into three halves.

When Gene first obtained the Outlaw Star, he was barely able to escape the Kei Pirates. They are not an organization to take lightly.

3 Geomancer

The Geomancer is the personal ship to the leader of the Kei Pirates and Avent Seven, Lord Hazanko. It comes equipped with a few weapons and grapplers. Albeit, Geomancer still isn't a combative ship as the other ships on the list, however, it still promotes a threat for Gene and friends, toward the end of the series.

Once Hazanko acquires his wish from the Galactic Leyline, he becomes all-powerful and merges with the Geomancer. The Geomancer is now a volatile threat to the Outlaw Star.

Anime Angel Link space ships

The flagship Angel Links from the 90’s series Angel Links is a nearly indestructible ship, with Meifon Li as the captain. She mainly stands in the center of the ship,  similar to Captain Kirk. It encompasses two primary weapons.

The Oracle Cannon generates waves that can possibly, destroy the ship, cause it to lose control, or cause it to lose power. The second weapon, Links Cannon, can hit multiple targets, devoid of any casualties. Angel Links does not make an appearance in the Outlaw Star series; it does however take place in the same universe.

1 Outlaw Star

The XGP15A-II better known as the Outlaw Star, maybe the most unrivaled ship in the whole series. The Outlaw Star came about, through the cooperation of the Space Force and the Pirate Guild. They all have a common purpose, which is finding the Galactic Leyline. It later falls into the hands carefree, Gene Starwind. That's right before there was Dandy, there was Gene Starwind.

The Technology of the XGP surpasses any other ship. The ship features grappler arms, which capable of wielding a gun and a battle-ax. The grapple arms also assist in hand-to-hand combat. The ship also comes equipped with a variety of missiles and camera pods that can be used to keep track of an enemy. Most spaceships in the world of Outlaw Star have one computer system, however, the Outlaw Star features two. The snarky Gilliam II is an A.I that mandates the ship and, Melfina is a bio android that is purposely created to handle the ship's navigation. She also needed to find the Galactic Leyline.
