The seinen genre of anime is one that doesn't get as much attention as its shonen counterpart but deserves respect all the same. If you aren't familiar with this genre, it's anime with the demographic of more mature audiences, meaning more mature plots and themes.

With the decade coming to an end, we decided to head on over to IMDb to find out what the highest-rated seinen anime of these past 10 years are. The anime that make this list are some you're going to want to check out if you're a fan of seinen anime or are interested in the genre.

10 MARCH COMES IN LIKE A LION- 8.4

This one is a bit hard to explain in a way to make it seem as interesting as it really is. March Comes in Like a Lion is the story of Japanese Chess player Rei Kiriyama. It follows his everyday life of living alone after the untimely death of his mother, father, and sister, which has left him alone, depressed, and financially hurt. He becomes acquainted with a group of sisters whom he develops past his life difficulties with.

If you're not watching this series, you're missing out on one of the best character-driven stories out there.

9 MADE IN ABYSS- 8.4

An orphaned girl named Riko finds a robot named Reg. This girl and her new humanoid companion head into the "Abyss," an entrance that leads deep inside the Earth with the goal of finding Riko's mother. If you want to know more about the series, you're going to want to check it out because we really don't want to spoil how good this series gets.

Made in Abyss is praised for its fantastic worldbuilding, characters, and beautiful art. After one episode, you'll be hooked in for the long haul.

8 PARASYTE: THE MAXIM- 8.4

What do you get when you throw John Carpenter's The Thing, Marvel Comic's Spider-Man, and 80's anime in a blender? You're going to get Parasyte: The Maxim. This anime is based on the 1989 anime of the same name and carries the same strengths as the original.

It's about a high school student that wakes up one day with an alien creature called a parasite attached to his arm, giving him physical enhancements and the ability to morph his arm into different forms. Together they hunt down the parasites that have come to Earth with the intent of devouring humans as if they were food.

7 ERASED- 8.5

Kids run towards their destiny in Erased.

Erased is the story of Satoru Fujinuma, who has the power known as "Revival" which sends him back in time moments before a life-threatening incident. He uses this ability to go back in time after his mother's murder and ends up 18 years in the past, where three kidnappings and his mother's death occur.

This anime's plot is nothing below amazing, and the loveable protagonist makes it all the more enjoyable to follow. Believe the hype on this one because you're going to be on the edge of your seat while diving into the world of Erased.

6 SHIN CHAN- 8.6

We know what you're thinking, and yes, we know, this series was released in the year 1992. Well, it was rereleased in 2015 with an all-new Internacional English dub. It's was very odd timing, and no one was expecting an all-new dub for this classic series. However, it's still Shin Chan, and it's still as funny as ever. Quite possibly the funniest seinen anime there is. What else is there to say?

This is the fourth English dub release of Crayon Shin Chan and was produced in Hong Kong by Red Angel Media in 2015. It was translated from LUK Internacional's Spanish dub, which is the closest to the original Japanese dub and is completely uncensored.

5 INITIAL D: FINAL STAGE- 8.8

With all the memes going around based around this series as of late it'd be a shame if you've never heard of Initial D. It'd be even more of a shame if you haven't checked out this legendary series either. Initial D: Final Stage is the sixth series in this anime series, all about Japanese street racing. After the series protagonist, Takumi Fujiwara, goes undefeated, it all comes down to his final and most difficult race yet.

After a very long road, the amazing Initial D series comes to a close and boy, that close really contains everything that makes the series so great. Hope you like Eurobeat.

4 STEINS;GATE- 8.8

Adapted from the visual novel of the same name, Stein;Gate takes its seat in the pantheon of great seinen anime of the decade. It's a very smart anime about time travel and using it to bring an end to an evil organization's plans. It's also one of those anime that you've definitely seen a bit of even if you haven't sat down to watch it yourself due to a few of the iconic scenes and the popular characters from it.

Steins;Gate starts slow but quickly blossoms into a story full of great plot and very likable characters. The chemistry between this cast is one of the greatest highlights of the series.

3 ONE PUNCH MAN- 8.8

You definitely have heard of this one, whether you've watched it or not. If you haven't watched it, then you really need to get on that because One Punch Man is a series that you don't want to miss out on. While the plot of a hero that has the power to defeat any opponent with one punch may seem boring, the series is much more than that.

Throughout this parody on shonen anime, there are countless characters that you'll be attached to and a lot of plot elements that will keep your mind moving. Our overpowered hero is simply the vessel we witness all this through.

2 MUSHISHI: ZOKU-SHO- 8.9

Mushishi: Zoku-Sho is the continuation and second anime of the Mushishi anime series. The series takes place in-between the Edo and Meiji periods of Japanese history and features the mysterious race called Mushi who have supernatural abilities. While these creatures are primitive and hard to read, there are those that can see and interact with them. Enter our main character Ginko: a Mushi master that travels to learn more about the Mushi and help those hurt by them.

A beautiful series, both plotwise and artwise, the atmosphere alone will pull you in and keep you wanting more.

1 VINLAND SAGA- 9.0

Now we go from the most peaceful entry on to the list to possibly the most violent. Vinland Saga is the story of the son of one of the greatest Viking warriors the planet has ever known. After the great warrior's death, his son, Thorfinn, joins his murderer's mercenaries to sharpen his skills and surpass his father so he can reach his ultimate goal of killing his father's assailant and avenging his father.

Straight off the first episode, you can tell that Vinland Saga is something special. Everything about the series is amazing, from character designs to the music. Truly a unique series that's nothing but worth your time.
