PlayStation's revamped PlayStation Plus service has been a huge success, and it keeps getting better. The modern PlayStation Plus, which merged the original PlayStation Plus with the streaming PlayStation Now service, is broken down into three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. While all of PS Plus' tiers continue to provide players with online multiplayer access to games and monthly free titles, only the Extra and Premium tiers offer a catalog of games available to stream at no extra charge beyond the subscription price.

The cloud-streaming service that the Extra and Premium tiers offer includes a catalog of hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games, as well as games from older generations like the PS2, PS3, PSP, and original PlayStation. PlayStation has added a handful of recent first-party games to the list along with several great third-party games that are absolute must-plays. What are the best games on PS Plus Premium?

Dragon Ball FighterZ Is About To See Another Revival

PlayStation Plus has an impressive collection of fighting games from hit franchises. Joining the likes of Street Fighter V and Mortal Kombat 11 is arguably the best fighting game of the past generation in Dragon Ball FighterZ. Dragon Ball FighterZ boasts the fighting game lineage of Arc System Works, known for its Guilty Gear franchise, and features explosive team-based gameplay.

Players can select some of their favorite Dragon Ball characters and fill their screens with frantic action and attention to detail that hardcore Dragon Ball fans can appreciate. Dragon Ball FighterZ is now also available on PlayStation 5 complete with rollback netcode. Sadly, rollback netcode won't be added to the PS4 version of Dragon Ball FighterZ, but it's still an exciting time to be a part of the Dragon Ball FighterZ community.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War Tells An Emotional Wartime Story

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is a beautiful adventure puzzle game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the makers behind the Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil series. Set during World War I, Valiant Hearts chronicles the lives of four characters of different nationalities facing each other in the trenches.

Valiant Hearts won the awards for "Best Narrative" and "Games for Change" at The Game Awards in 2014. It's a unique look into a dark time, creating a game that is both emotional and educational. Valiant Hearts recently received a sequel in Valiant Hearts: Coming Home that has finally made its way to the PS4!

Don't Get Too Attached To Soldiers In XCOM 2

Main Story: 33.5 Hours

Any players looking at XCOM 2 that find themselves getting attached to characters may not fully enjoy their time with the turn-based tactics game. XCOM 2 puts the player in charge of a team of military resistance fighters waging guerilla warfare against an occupying alien force. Players get to choose and manage their team of combatants, leveling them up as they gain experience from kills and completed missions.

However, these characters can die, and they will never come back if they do. XCOM 2's combat is strategic, fun, and rewarding. While losing a team member that players have had over numerous missions is devastating, carrying them through so many missions is equally rewarding. If that's not enough, the PS3 version of XCOM Enemy Within is available to stream on PS Plus Premium.

Garou: Mark Of The Wolves Is, For Now, The Most Recent Fatal Fury Game

Fatal Fury is back! Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will mark the first Fatal Fury game since 1999's Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Players who are excited for the return of Fatal Fury should give Garou a try! What's great is that Garou received an enhanced port in 2016, so players can experience this amazing fighting game on PS Plus while they wait.

Garou and the greater Fatal Fury series is the original home of many classic fighters like Terry Bogard and Rock Howard. Fans of The King of Fighters will quickly find characters they recognize in Garou. On top of that, the PS4 version of Garou also has rollback netcode and trophy support making it the best place to play it.

It Wouldn't Hurt To Play Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Before Dragon's Dogma II

Established Dragon's Dogma fans are already well invested in Dragon's Dogma II, which has proven to be a Game of the Year contender despite some controversy. For players who have never played the original Dragon's Dogma, or may be waiting for Capcom to make some key fixes to the sequel, PS Plus can provide an easy fix.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is a remaster of the PS3 original. A hack-and-slash RPG, Dragon's Dogma is a fantasy series where the customizable protagonist, known as the Arisen, must venture to defeat the dragon Grigori. The enhanced Dark Arisen release had a plethora of new content, including a new dungeon with new weapons, armor, and lore to discover. Dragon's Dogma is a perfect game to play for players who love The Witcher and The Elder Scrolls series.

Disco Elysium Is A Deep Detective Game Full Of Tough And Complex Choices

Disco Elysium is one of the most remarkable games in recent memory. Despite its simple set-up on the surface, an amnesiac detective, Disco Elysium is an incredibly deep game with a memorable setting. Disco Elysium is an RPG, but there's no combat to be found.

Any conflict is handled through speech dialog and skill checks, similar to what can be found in a Fallout game. Players can build up their protagonist through 24 different skills based on their Intellect, Psyche, Physique, and Motorics. Examples of skills within these categories include Rhetoric, Empathy, Electro-Chemistry, and Reaction Speed. Playing Disco Elysium, it's easy to see why it received so many perfect review scores and awards.

Alien: Isolation Is One Of The Scariest Games Ever Made

Many horror franchises have attempted to replicate their big-screen scares in video game form. Some, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, have opted for the asymmetric multiplayer experience. Others, like Saw, left much to be desired. Alien: Isolation, on the other hand, perfectly captured what makes the Alien franchise so special.

Set 15 years after the original Alien film, Alien: Isolation follows Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, as she searches for her mother. However, its latest games, inFAMOUS: Second Son and inFAMOUS: First Light, are both loads of fun with a vast array of powers including neon and television-like static that makes combat and traversal a one-of-a-kind experience even today.

Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection Remasters Two Of The Best PS4 Games

It's hard to believe it's been over six years since the most recent Uncharted video game release, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. That doesn't mean Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed treasure-hunting franchise has been forgotten. In fact, Uncharted received a live-action film in 2022. To coincide with the release of that film, a PS5 remaster of The Lost Legacy and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End released as a part of the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.

Legacy of Thieves includes a slew of visual and frame rate refinements customary to remasters, although it lacks the multiplayer mode shared by the PS4 versions of each game. For those who do want to play those PS4 versions, both Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy are also available on PlayStation Plus.

Dragon Quest XI Is Perfect For JRPG Fans Who Long For The Old Days

Dragon Quest XI brings with it a traditional story with a memorable cast of characters and classic turn-based combat. Dragon Quest XI is joined by other Dragon Quest games such as the Dragon Quest Builders and the Dragon Quest Heroes series.

Fallout 76 Has Improved Considerably Since Its Launch

When Fallout 76 launched back in 2018, it was met with harsh criticisms from players who found it lacking in content and full of game-breaking bugs. Almost five years on, the developers have not given up on the title, consistently adding new content through free DLC. Most recently, Fallout 76 has expanded beyond Appalachia by taking players to "The Pitt," post-apocalyptic Pittsburgh, which is making its return from Fallout 3's DLC.

Another "Expeditions," this time taking players to Atlantic City, New Jersey. The first batch of Atlantic City content was released in December with the second batch just released in late March. Fallout 76 is far from done! The Fallout 76 map has expanded with new areas to explore, more quests, new characters, and a host of quality-of-life updates to improve the user experience. If any players out there were hesitating or unsure about the game, now is the time to leave the vault and check out Fallout 76. Especially if they need a Fallout fix after watching the Amazon Fallout series.

Need For Speed Unbound Is A Step In The Right Direction For The Franchise

Need for Speed has been sputtering along in recent years, producing numerous lackluster entries in the popular street racing franchise. Need for Speed Unbound is a step in the right direction, and while it doesn't reach some of the highs as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit or Need for Speed Most Wanted, it's worth a shot for any player with a need for speed.

The most striking thing about Need for Speed Unbound is its visuals, which are inspired by graffiti art. Races have an aesthetic flair that makes it stand out compared to previous Need for Speed entries. For those who aren't a fan, EA has recently released an update allowing players to turn those effects off. Regardless of how players play, Need for Speed Unbound is an underrated racer that's worth trying now that it's on PS Plus.

Bloodborne Is A Great Entry Point For Aspiring Soulsborne Players

Main Story: 33 Hours

While PC players are looking forward to the possibility of Bloodborne being released outside of the PS4's ecosystem, PS Plus players can play it right now. Bloodborne is still among the best Soulsborne games ever released, and it's a prime candidate for a remaster or even a remake in the future.

That said, Bloodborne is still worth playing in 2024. Players introduced to the Soulsborne genre through Elden Ring, Demon's Souls, Lies of P, or one of the many other fantastic Soulborne games will especially appreciate this classic. Bloodborne is perfect for first-time players or seasoned veterans.

Resident Evil 2 Remake Is One Of The Best Remakes Ever

Resident Evil 2 came hot off the heels of the franchise-altering Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Anyone who believed RE7 was a fluke and that the Resident Evil series wasn't entering a golden age was proven wrong by the remake of Resident Evil 2.

While it omits a few things from the original game, Resident Evil 2 Remake is a truly realized modern version of the beloved horror classic. Exploring the Racoon City Police Department station as Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield is both engaging and intense, with plenty of secrets and frights behind every door. RE2 Remake is a memorable experience that all players should play — even those who have avoided the horror genre. In March, the Resident Evil 3 remake also joined PS Plus.

The Outer Worlds Is, For Now, The Closest Thing PlayStation Players Have To Starfield

Main Story: 16 Hours

In 2023, PlayStation players had to sit and watch Xbox players gush over Bethesda Softworks' hit RPG Starfield. While there are currently questions about whether or not Starfield will make the jump to PS5 in the future, for now PlayStation players are missing out.

One alternate PlayStation players should try is The Outer Worlds. The Outer Worlds boasts a similar setting and gameplay as Starfield and is made by Obsidian, the makers of Fallout: New Vegas and Pentiment. The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition for PS5 includes improved visuals, a new level cap, and every DLC. The wait for Starfield on PS5 will be long, if not eternal, but PS5 players may have a better choice of games already on PS Plus.

The South Park RPG Series Is A Perfectly Hilarious Tribute To The Timeless Franchise

Video game adaptations are nothing new for South Park. Whether it's the first-person shooter of the same name, the mini-game filled Chef's Luv Shack, or kart racer South Park Rally, South Park has been all over the place. Recently, however, the South Park series has hit two major home runs in turn-based RPGs the fantasy-themed South Park: The Stick of Truth and the superhero-themed South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

Both South Park games allow players to create their own school-mate of the classic, foul-mouthed quartet and their friends and have the opportunity to explore a fully realized South Park. Both South Park games are must-plays for anyone who has enjoyed South Park over the years or wants an excuse to go down to South Park after playing the 3D co-op South Park: Snow Day!

Revisit Los Santos In Grand Theft Auto V On PlayStation 5

It's tough to undersell the magnitude of Grand Theft Auto V. GTAV is the 2nd best-selling game ever made behind Minecraft, which is remarkable considering its M-rated status and the fact it still hasn't been released on a Nintendo platform. GTAV not only boasts a vibrant and lively world, but a really good story to boot. Not to mention players still get a lot of mileage out of GTA Online.

GTAV's time in the limelight is dimming, given Grand Theft Auto VI is finally set to release in 2025. For players who haven't visited Los Santos since the PS3 days, now's a great time to dive back into GTAV and see all the technical advancements made in its PS4 and later PS5 remasters. For those who still haven't played GTAV, experience one of the best games ever made in the best possible way on consoles.

Tomb Raider Reboot Trilogy Dawned A New Era For Lara Croft

Main Story: 11.5 Hours (Tomb Raider), 13.5 Hours (Rise of the Tomb Raider), & 13 Hours (Shadow of the Tomb Raider)

The Tomb Raider reboot trilogy did an incredible job of grounding video game icon Lara Croft in believable lore. While the Uncharted series drew from the original Tomb Raider games, the grittier Tomb Raider reboot trilogy was also inspired by the explosive, cinematic, and well-written Uncharted series.

The result is one of the most enthralling adventure trilogies games to date, which even saw a movie adaptation in 2018, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are all available on PS Plus. While not on PS Plus, the original Tomb Raider trilogy is getting a remaster in February 2024, making this a great way to compare the past and present.

Tales Of Arise Set A New Standard For The Long-Running RPG Franchise

The Tales series has persevered under the shadow of Final Fantasy for nearly 30 years. With nearly 20 games in the action RPG franchise under their belt, its most recent outing in Tales of Arise might be its best entry yet.

Tales of Arise tells a story of two divided worlds. The world of Dahna, a medieval-inspired world, has been enslaved and subjugated by the technologically advanced world of Rena for centuries. Players experience the pursuit of freedom alongside a man in an Iron Mask with no recollection of his past and an even more mysterious woman who is cursed to harm anyone who touches her. Tales of Arise received critical acclaim, winning "Best RPG" at The Game Awards 2021, and carries the highest Metacritic score of any Tales game.

Ghost Of Tsushima: Director's Cut Is The Complete Version Of One of Sony's Best Exclusives

Main Story: 25 Hours

Ghost of Tsushima was easily one of the best games of 2020. Sucker Punch followed it up with a free multiplayer mode add-on in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends that exists as its own stand-alone experience. In 2021, the Iki Island expansion added a new area to explore with new story missions and collectibles to find.

Ghost of Tsushima's story follows Jin Sakai as he tries to survive on the war-torn Japanese island of Tsushima and fight back against the invading Mongol forces. Jin's story is emotional. The setting is gorgeous. The characters are deep and memorable, and the sword-wielding gameplay is fun and extremely satisfying.
