The Powerpuff Girls are cultural icons and can be easily recognized. You sometimes can just put green, blue, and pink together and suddenly your brain is thinking Powerpuff Girls. Due to that fact, some may think they are an easy cosplay. However, that's not quite true. Since they are so popular, it can be difficult to make your cosplay memorable.

There are a lot of creative directions cosplayers can take though, from changing the genre of how we see the Powerpuff Girls to taking their design and shaking it up while still keeping them recognizable. Below is a list of cosplays we thought were pretty notable.

10 Apocalypse Powerpuff Girls

These amazing cosplayers are Bettcanard Design, Neko Cosplay, and  Chrix Design. They had the cool idea of putting the Powerpuff Girls into a different genre, something with more of a Fallout or Bioshock vibe. They adjusted the looks while still keeping the characters' varied personalities in mind. "I figured that Buttercup would have the most dramatic almost Goth like makeup of the three," wrote Chrix Design on her blog. "Pale skin, heavy eyeshadow and green lips."

The weapons are particularly amazing. Blossom's sniper even have a little flower sticker on it! Also Bubbles' plush octopus, Octi, appears to be holding a bomb!

9 Powerpuff Hijab Cosplay

Cosplay that utilizes hijabs are slowly beginning to trend on the social media spectrum. There are amazing hijab cosplayers that can be seen on websites like Pinterest and Instagram that show you don't have to flaunt your hair or a wig to look like a character.

The cosplayers for Blossom and Buttercup are unfortunately unknown, but they are unmistakably the Powerpuff Girls.  Their hijabs match the characters' hair colors and they even added accessories to them like bows. The photo is from Saakira Izumi, who did the Bubbles cosplay.

8 Battle Armor Girls

Now this is a creative twist. The fans kept the characters recognizable, but used fan-made battle armor instead of the typical clothes. They kept with the colors (a must for these cosplays), and also added some personality to each individual costume. The weapons are especially fantastic with Bubbles having a battleaxe, a scythe for Buttercup, and a spear for Blossom. Also an Octi design in in the battleaxe's blade!

7 Keyblade Wielders

While the cosplayers are unknown, this photo was taken by EriTes Photo.

Turning any character into a keyblade wielder from the Kingdom Hearts universe is a great idea to make your own original cosplay design. They even included the Professor! His keyblade has the sign for chemical X. The girl's keyblades are gorgeous, especially with the flower attachments. Each cosplay also as it's sweet little details like Bubbles has bunny tights and Blossoms has large sleeves with blossom designs.

6 Powerpuff Posers

Some people may think this is actually a bad cosplay, but they couldn't be more wrong. This cosplay is amazingly accurate, and it's not of the main characters. It's from the episode, "Powerpuff Bluff." It's when three buff keys break out of jail and disguise themselves as the Powerpuff Girls to get away with crime. The best part is that their costumes look exactly like this cosplay. They are supposed to look obvious, but every fan knows the City of Townsville is fill of naive folks. Unfortunately the cosplayers are unknown, but they deserve a medal for cleverly pulling off these minor characters.

5 Mad Max Powerpuff Girls

These cosplayers were made by SomethingsoSam and her friends. "I’ve always wanted to cosplay as the Powerpuff Girls and this year I finally forced my friends into doing with me!" she wrote. "I sewed us simple dresses, painted some Nerf guns, and we were ready to save the day!"

She makes it sounds easy. They certainly have the Furiosa look going on with their dark eye paint. The paint job must have taken a lot of talent, as the guns look like they are straight ouf of the apocalypse (with a little Powerpuff color added).

4 Showdown Against Princess

Blossom cosplay is by Courtney Dawne, Bubbles by Kelly Eden, Buttercup by Hannah Dugas, and Princess by Zilla 308.

Who says you cannot cosplay if you have tattoos? The tattoos actually bring a sense of uniqueness to their cosplay, like the Powerpuff Girls grew up and are in a rebellious phase. Looks like Bubbles liked the movie, Labyrinth. The minor villain, Princess, is also a welcome sight. Being the same age as the girls, but now older, this photo has a Mean Girls sort of vibe to it.

3 Power Punk Girls

These cosplayers look like the Powerpuff Girls if they joined a biker gang, and it's awesome. All their hair has an alternative spin like Blossom having curly hair, Buttercup's being cut short, and Bubbles' braided pigtails. The fishnet tights are a must, and Buttercup mixes it up by having a fishnet glove. These are cosplays that you want to get a closer look at, like what buttons are they wearing on their leather jackets? Octi is on Bubbles' jacket. Blossoms' suspenders have cherries on them. Buttercup has gold chains. There is a lot going on in these outfits.

Cosplayers are unknown.

2 Grown Up Powerpuff Girls

Honestly all the cosplays so far have been grown up Powerpuff Girls in a sense. However, none of them have tried to show the girls as mature woman you could probably just meet while getting groceries in Townsville. No biker gangs, no apocalypse, no keyblade war, just the Powerpuff Girls living ordinary lives until they are needed. It's easy to even picture these grown up versions with ordinary jobs like being a lawyer, teacher, or fashion designer.

Cosplayers are unknown.

1 Rowdyruff Boys

The Rowdyruff Boys are minor villains from the series. They were fun, as they were extreme versions of stereotypical boys and were created to fight the Powerpuff Girls. Their names were Brick, Boomer, and Butch. Here we have Brick and Butch, who were opposed to Blossom and Buttercup. Brick was cosplayed by DinoCavallone and Butch's cosplayer is unknown.

They sort of look like bishounen versions of the original characters. They are pretty whereas the original characters were known to be dirty and gross.
