Pokémon has always been an upbeat series with some creepy creatures, but aside from some near misses caused by evil teams, the world is pretty stable. But what if it something happened to the Pokémon world, plunging into something of Fallout situation? In a world with creatures who can breathe fire, scar people for life just by touching them and control space and time, it's a miracle nothing calamitous has occurred.

The Poké-ocalypse would be tough for a trainer, so here's a team that might help you survive. Note that this is based on practical use rather than battle capabilities. For fairness, this team doesn't include legendaries. The situation would probably have been their faults anyway.

Rotom

Pokemon Rotom Forms

If machines are still sitting around post-apocalypse, Rotom will be one useful Pokemon. It's an Electric/Ghost-type by default, but can enter machines to make them work again, which also changes its type depending on the machine. It could restart useful things like lights, stoves or even a washing machine. Having clean clothes in the apocalypse would be living big. It could also be used to create noise or lights in the distance to spook intruders or unsavory trainers. It does like to cause mischief though, so it might not always do as expected. Rotom is a multi-purpose must have for the end of the world.

Machamp or Machoke

Pokemon Machamp

A Fighting-type Pokemon isn't just for fighting; any Pokemon can do that. In the anime and games, you've probably seen a Machoke helping with construction or moving stuff for people. According to the Pokédex, it likes to help others using its strength and doesn't get tired easily.

It can be assumed this also extends to Machamp, who has more arms to do things. Can't carry all your supplies yourself? Get this Pokémon a huge backpack and load it up with everything you could possibly need. On top of this, they're both very strong and would have no trouble getting into locked buildings for shelter while keeping others out.

Meganium

Meganium ready for battle in the Pokemon anime

Once Machamp has helped you secure a safe spot, you're going to need a food source. Growing your own is a good option, but if the soil isn't the greatest or you don't have a green thumb, Meganium can help you out. It is said to have the unique ability to bring back dead plants and make them healthy just by breathing on them. This is huge, as it probably applies to the soil they live in too, making it ideal for growing fruits and vegetables to provide you with bountiful feasts. Having all that extra food would make for good trading too.

Arcanine

To survive the Poké-ocalypse, you're going to need a Fire-type. They can start campfires, keep you warm and heat up food if there are no stoves for your Rotom to possess. There are many to choose from, but Arcanine is one of the best options. It's a big loyal dog that, according to the Pokédex, can run up to 6,200 miles in a day. That would be a huge help when traveling or escaping, and Arcanine could protect you from danger. It could also help out by hunting and sniffing out food. And who doesn't want a dog in the post-apocalypse?

Lapras

While Arcanine could keep you warm in chiller regions or during Winter, Lapras could keep you cool in hotter climates and during the Summer. This icy Pokemon has the bonus of also being Water-type, making it capable of generating a valuable resource and helping out with gardening once Meganium gets you started. It might not move well on land, but Lapras is known in the Pokémon world for ferrying travelers across water on its back. Depending on the state of the world's water, Lapras could get you to new places and help with fishing too.

Swellow

While a Psychic-type might sound like it'd be more useful, many of these Pokémon come with issues that would be detrimental at the end of the world. Additionally, while a larger Flying-type like Corviknight could fly you around, it might also make you a target. Instead, a small but fast bird like Swellow would be perfect for scouting and hunting.

Swellow is just over two-feet tall, but it can dive at prey and rarely misses, making it great for small game. Because of its size, it would also be harder to spot in the sky than something like a dragon and could safely report back with what's ahead.
