Every anime fan has an era that makes them nostalgic. Cowboy Bebop has been a favorite for anime fans since it aired on Adult Swim. The way the serious could shift effortlessly from smooth and contemplative character development to some of the coolest action scenes almost on a dive was something that many anime fans had never seen before.

The series currently is available in a variety of locations, including Tubi, Hulu, and YouTube TV.

9 Gundam Wing Was The First Gundam Series On TV In The West & Is Available On Hulu

The entire Western world was introduced to Gundam Wing in March of 2000, five years after the popular series took Japan by storm. The series was one of Bandai’s alternate universe series, meaning it took place outside of the Universal Century that was the main Gundam timeline from 1979 until 1993.

Taking five teenage boys and placing them inside mecha that were far advanced from what normally existed, the series gave fans a cast of attractive main characters, high-intensity action, and political drama as well. Fans can currently stream the series on Hulu.

8 Dragon Ball Z Helped Toonami Blow Up & Is Available On Funimation

Dragon Ball Z was most fans' entry into the world of anime entirely. Especially '90s and 2000s fans, where Toonami reigned supreme and managed to introduce a generation of children to shonen action. The series was beloved for its action scenes, world-building, and likable cast, even though in the 2000s they constantly kept fans waiting between new dubbed episodes.

For many, this is still their favorite anime ever, not just in the U.S. but worldwide, which is why despite Super being a polarizing series, everyone still lined up to watch it. These days, if fans want to watch it streaming, they’ll have to go to Funimation.

7 Tenchi Muyo Was A Fantasy Harem Series Available For Streaming On Funimation

Tenchi Muyo was the first harem series most anime fans watched, unless they managed to get their hands on something like Love Hina. Tenchi Muyo was the first comedy anime to air on Toonami and was fairly popular even though they had three different timelines and no one seemed to know why.

Record of the Lodoss War was an OVA that was widely hailed for being a beautifully animated fantasy series with an epic scale unlike anything fans were used to, with anime mostly being focused on mecha and sci-fi up until that point.

The story centered around a young knight named Parn and his adventurers, all of whom were working together to save their home, the country of Lodoss from the power of an evil sorcerer seeking to attain a dangerous power from a being known as the Grey Witch. Both the original Lodoss War OVA as well as Chronicles of the Heroic Knight are available for streaming on Funimation.

5 Magic Knight Rayearth Was A Major CLAMP Hit Combining Magical Girls & Giant Robots, & Can Be Found On Amazon Prime

A trio of young women is teleported to an alternate world where the members of the trio are all asked to save the world from the evil Zagatos. One of the earlier series to come from CLAMP, this series was one half Sailor Moon, one half Super Robot.

The young girls not only transformed and gained special powers, but they were able to summon giant robots to help them in combat. Magic Knight Rayearth was incredibly popular for its era, but currently, the only place to find it is on Amazon Prime.

4 Yu Yu Hakusho Was One Of Adult Swim's Biggest Hits & Is Available On Funimation & Hulu

The next big action series to make it after Dragon Ball Z. The two shows were both action and shonen, but that was about all they had in common. While Goku was a well-meaning sap, Yusuke was a foul-mouthed street kid who got powers after he was brought back to life.

The Spirit Detective would battle countless threats to the human and spirit world, and along the way learn about the corruption present in both worlds. People wanting to watch Yu Yu Hakusho can do so via Tubi for free, or on Hulu or Funimation if they want to avoid ads.

3 Vision Of Escaflowne Is A Fantasy Mecha Series Available On Funimation

A series that made its way to airwaves heavily edited, Vision of Escaflowne was a unique series for its time. The series told the story of Hitomi Kanzaki, a young girl who gets teleported to the world of Gaea.

In Gaea, Hitomi comes into contact with Van, a young man meant to become King, and has his own mecha. Hitomi works alongside Van in the hopes of saving his kingdom and finally returning home one day. The series is available on Amazon Prime for those who’d like to purchase it, but it’s also available on Funimation as well.

Slayers features young Lina Inverse, an incredible sorceress with an obsession with gold and treasures. She travels the world alongside swordsman Gourry and a band of friends with the hope of making as much money as possible.

Occasionally, the group might even help save the world, but money and fame are always at the center of Lina’s goals. Slayers is available for streaming on Hulu and Funimation, though Amazon Prime Video is also selling the series.

Another runaway hit for Toonami was the space sci-fi series Outlaw Star. The series introduced fans to Gene Starwind, a young man running a business known as Starwind and Hawking Enterprises, alongside his friend, an eleven-year-old genius named Jim Hawking.

Together the two take on any business with their skills of brain and brawn, though they wind up in trouble when they discover a girl, Melfina, trapped inside of a box. Outlaw Star was an incredible sci-fi series that every fan should give a rewatch, and they can do so by going on Hulu or Funimation.
