The X-Men are easily one of the largest superteams in all of comics. Since their first appearance in 1963, the team has expanded into many groups, faced off against all sorts of threats, and played many different roles in the larger Marvel Universe. Because the team is so popular, new mutants are constantly being introduced as a way of keeping the stories fresh and exciting.

While some characters are definitely more interesting than others, each adds something to the team that helps develop their history. Likewise, the X-Men have recently undergone a massive change within the Marvel Universe, signaling all sorts of major changes going forward. Though it is currently unclear as to how many new characters will come along, we can still look back at some stronger ones. Keeping specifically within the last decade, here is our list of the 10 best new X-Men.

10 Rasputin

Powers of X Rasputin feature

As an incredibly new mutant, very little is currently known about Rasputin. Debuting in Powers of X #1 which released earlier this year, Rasputin has proven to be very intriguing. Not only is she very new, but she also possesses a total of 5 different mutant abilities. She can harden like Colossus, has X-23’s healing abilities, is telepathic, intangible and can even produce force fields.

In being so powerful, it is hard to imagine how she can be defeated. Though very little else is known about her, she is still incredibly new and is very likely to develop further as part of Jonathan Hickman’s X-Men run.

9 Oya

Idie Okonkwo has the mutant ability to alter the temperature around her. Because of this, she can heat or freeze things at alarming rates, effectively allowing her to control both ice and fire. Since her debut in 2010 in Uncanny X-Men, Idie has come to call herself Oya. She is also one of the first mutants to manifest following the events of Second Coming.

Since the Schism event, Oya hasn’t been seen much, though it was always implied that she had the potential to be a great leader. Likewise, with Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia having a virtually identical powerset, Oya is one new character who likely deserves the spotlight once again.

8 Warbird

Warbird X-Men Shi'ar Phil Noto

Unlike everyone else on this list, Warbird isn’t actually a mutant, but has still served as a member of the X-Men. As a member of the Shi’ar Empire, Ava’Dara Naganandini eventually found her way to Earth. Serving as a bodyguard to Kid Gladiator, the duo would eventually cross paths with the X-Men.

Though she didn’t exactly support the same values as the team, she still served alongside them as part of her duty to protect Kid Gladiator. Since making her debut in 2011, she has since returned to the Shi’ar Empire and hasn’t been seen much since.

7 ForgetMeNot

Despite making his first appearance in 2014, ForgetMeNot had actually been a member of the X-Men for several years prior. Due to his unique abilities though, no one can remember him. Even Charles Xavier himself had to place a psychic reminder on himself so that ForgetMeNot’s existence wouldn’t be forgotten. Strictly speaking, ForgetMeNot’s abilities make it so that he is imperceptible in all forms.

Even some of the most powerful telepaths have difficulty discovering the mutant. While he may be a very forgettable character in general, his abilities are still incredibly unique and intriguing.

6 Tempus

Tempus from the X-Men

Following the events of Avengers vs X-Men, Cyclops would break from the other X-Men to form his own team of mutants. One of his first recruits would be none other than Eva Bell, who would come to be known as Tempus. Eva herself possesses the ability to slow or stop time in a certain area, which was shown to be very beneficial.

Since her debut, she would come to play a rather large role throughout Brian Bendis’ run on Uncanny X-Men. For a while though, her presence definitely lessened. However, as of the recent House of X, Tempus has been seen as part of Charles Xavier’s “The Five.”

5 Pyro (Simon Lasker)

While most X-men fans are already familiar with St. John Allerdyce as the mutant, Pyro, Simon Lasker is the newest version of the character. Since debuting in 2017, Lasker has been on quite a journey. Initially, he was brainwashed into joining the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, though he would later serve as part of the X-Men: Blue team. Likewise, he also had a brief romantic fling with the younger Iceman, though it never lasted long between them.

Though Simon has been a smaller player in the X-Men world since his first appearance, Pyro is once again John Allerdyce and now serves as a member of the new Marauders lineup.

4 Jimmy Hudson

For a while, Jimmy Hudson was actually Wolverine in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. Following the events of Secret Wars though, Jimmy found himself within the main Marvel Universe. Furthermore, shortly after the X-Men: Blue series launched, Jimmy found himself as one of their additional members.

Despite joining the main Marvel Universe later in his career, Jimmy was initially introduced early in 2010. Since then, he has proven himself as Wolverine, similarly to how x-23 did in All-New Wolverine. Despite going as Wolverine in the past, Jimmy definitely set himself apart in recent years.

3 Cable

As most people already know, Cable has been a well-established member of the X-Men for years now. As the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey who hails from the future, Cable has been involved in many time-travelling adventures. Recently, however, the Cable that everyone knew and loved had been revealed to be murdered by a younger version of himself.

Despite being the same character, the younger version of Cable is effectively an entirely new character. Though both have a similar attitude, the younger Cable has appeared to be a bit more ruthless. Likewise, with the character having less experience, the character has been "reset" so to speak, making him different enough from the original to qualify for this list.

2 Goldballs (Egg)

Fabio Medina is one of the more popular new characters to come out of Brian Bendis' run on X-Men. With a completely ridiculous superpower, Medina earned the nickname Goldballs, thanks to the large, golden balls that he can expel from his body. Eventually, he would come to go by Egg instead, but not before a great number of rather humorous jokes were made.

For a time, Fabio would actually leave the X-Men and attend school with Miles Morales, formerly the Ultimate Spider-Man. Seeing the two interact was actually a great part of Miles' solo series, as Fabio tends to work better as a supporting character. For the time being, Fabio remains a part of the X-Men corner of Marvel, though it is unclear how big a role he will play going forward.

1 Honeybadger

Gabby Kinney as Honey Badget

One of the most pleasant surprises to come out of the All-New Wolverine was the introduction of her "little sister," Gabby. Like Laura herself, Gabby is actually a clone with some slightly different abilities. For example, Gabby only has one claw that can extend from her hand, though her healing factor is so advanced that she can't feel pain. However, Gabby's powers aren't the only difference between her and her older sister.

Their personalities are also very different, with Gabby having a much less serious, goofy outlook on life. Sometimes, Gabby's dialogue alone has been enough to make readers giggle, making her an incredibly welcome experience in virtually every book she's in. Needless to say, gabby is easily one of the best new X-Men characters from the past decade.
