The Targaryens Rise Again In House of the Dragon

house of the dragon alicent and Rhaenyra

By far the most anticipated show dropping on HBO Max in August is House of the Dragon. The first spinoff from Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon takes place approximately 200 years earlier. The series is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, which depicts the events leading up to and covering the Dance of the Dragons. The shwo will primarily focus on one family: the Targaryens. It's a different -- and incredibly bold -- path to take after the disastrous ending to Game of Thrones, which many account for the character assassination of Daenerys Targaryen.

The series is expected to stick closely to its source material, but has already enacted small changes that could make it better than Game of Thrones. These additions include a more diverse cast, toning down the sexual content and nudity, and changing its most important relationship for sake of drama. Even if viewers despise the Game of Thrones finale, House of the Dragon is worth a look for fictional history geeks and fans of the Targaryens.

House of the Dragon premieres Aug, 21.

House of Ho Brings Back the Drama in Season 2

house of ho hbo max

After watching the tumultuous family drama between the Targaryens, head on over to another house: the House of Ho. The reality series is centered around the Ho family, a Vietnamese-American clan based out of Houston. While not wildly popular compared to The Kardashians, House of Ho brings the drama that The Kardashians have lacked since ending their previous show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The show is a glimpse into rich-people problems -- through people who just happen to be Vietnamese-American.

The patriarch and matriarch of the family are Binh and Hue, who hold conservative values that deem their oldest child Judy a disappointment since she is a woman. There's also Washington, who spends his time drinking and gambling, but is still praised by his parents because of his gender. While the show lacks substance at times, it does tackle serious topics like toxic masculinity and alcoholism, which is a surprising choice for reality television.

House of Ho Season 2 premieres Aug. 25.
