Marvel Comics is bigger than ever, with both comic books and ancillary entertainment. Even with movies on hold for over a year, Marvel got its product out with new streaming series premiering on Disney+ and video games featuring top superheroes. With so much entertainment out there, the world of podcasts has never let up on covering everything from Marvel.

There are many podcasts covering movies and comic books. However, there are also several that specialize in Marvel entertainment, looking at the books, breaking down the movies and TV shows, and interviewing the people involved in creating the entertainment for fans.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Podcast

Marvel Cinematic Universe podcast.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will find a lot to love in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Podcast. This podcast’s hosts talk about the Marvel movies and TV shows, and it is clear they are fans of the product and speak enthusiastically about everything. The hosts are Matthew Carroll, Jeff Randle and Ashley Coffin, and they break down everything from each episode of the shows to each moment from the movies.

The hosts also have no qualms about tackling social issues, which they proved in their discussion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. They emphasized that they don’t care if they lose listeners doing so, because they feel it is important to break down the shows’ themes in the face of real-world issues. This podcast started in 2014, so there are plenty of great recaps to catch up on.

Defenders Dialogue

Starting in 2017, author Christopher Golden and comic book writer Brian Keene created the Defenders Dialogue podcast. This was a love letter from the podcast hosts to their Marvel Comics series, The Defenders. After a quick introduction where they discussed the origins of the Defenders, they took a journey through the comic book series and a look at the characters introduced in The Defenders.

In 2019, they started talking about other comics, including The Champions, Marvel’s Godzilla series, and The Thing’s Marvel Two-In-One team ups. Even breaking away from The Defenders, their love of comics continued to shine through.

Marvel's Pull List

Marvel has pushed its pursuit of podcasting, and since 2018 it released its own weekly podcast titled Marvel’s Pull List. In this podcast, Ryan “Agent M” Penagos and Tucker Markus talk about the new releases of the week. Since this is a Marvel-run podcast, there is nothing here critical about the comics coming out.

However, while the podcast is pro-Marvel, there is another reason to follow it every week: it features great guests on the episodes. This includes M.O.D.O.K. showrunner Jordan Blum talking about the Hulu series and writer Al Ewing talking about the Loki: Agent of Asgard series he wrote.

Amazing Spider-Talk: A Spider-Man Podcast

Amazing Spider-Talk: A Spider-Man Podcast logo.

Amazing Spider-Talk: A Spider-Man Podcast is a fan podcast from two Spider-Man devotees: Dan Gvozden and Mark Ginocchio. This podcast offers both a look at recent Spider-Man comics and a deep dive into the character’s history. The podcast just celebrated its 300th episode on June 17, 2021, so there are a ton of back episodes for Spider-Man fans to catch up on.

While this is a fan podcast, they get some great interviews. The two interviewed former Spider-Man editor Jim Calicrup in the 300th episode about the landmark 300th issue of Amazing Spider-Man and Venom’s introduction. They even spoke to John Romita Jr. earlier this year.

Robservations with Rob Liefeld

While it is not a specific Marvel podcast, Rob Liefeld started his Robservations podcast in 2020 and his love of Marvel Comics was on full display. The podcast has morphed since its launch, but the first few months of episodes had Rob Liefeld track how he fell in love with comics as a child in the ‘70s. Even people who might hate Liefeld’s work should find plenty of entertainment with his podcast because he shows a true love of comic book history.

Liefeld moves on to discuss his career and tells his side of the controversy surrounding his time in comics. One thing that viewers will have to get used to is Liefeld’s love of impersonations, as he mimics Todd McFarlane multiple times in every episode.

Marvel's Voices

Marvel’s Voices is another Marvel-curated podcast, this one set up as an interview podcast with some of the brightest voices in comics talking about how they created their characters. This podcast has Angélique Roché as the host. While it doesn’t have as many episodes as other Marvel podcasts, and the episodes are on the shorter side, the interviews are with top talent.

Roché recently interviewed The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie and writer Malcolm Spellman. This podcast, with its emphasis on diversity in storytelling, became so popular that it inspired the Marvel’s Voices comic book anthology series.

Marvel Cinematic University

Marvel Cinematic University is another podcast that breaks down all the movies and TV shows from the MCU. Currently in its third year, this podcast is newer than the Marvel Cinematic Universe Podcast. It started out reviewing all the MCU movies, with Anthony, Jake and Jerome talking about everything they liked and hated in the releases.

The three hosts also bring in plenty of guests, which allows for fresh voices each episode. Another bonus is that the Marvel Cinematic University podcast doesn’t stop when there is nothing new released, as during a recent lull they covered The Mandalorian, Invincible, and Venom.

This Week In Marvel

This Week in Marvel is another Marvel-hosted podcast. Ryan “Agent M” Penagos (from Marvel’s Pull List), Lorraine Cink and James Monroe Iglehart host the show, going deep into what is currently happening in Marvel's comics, TV shows, and video games each week. The podcast also features some great outside-the-box interviews.

An example was in Episode 916 in April 2021 when the team interviewed WWE Hall of Fame superstar Shawn Michaels, who revealed that his love of comics predates his love of wrestling. Once again, as a Marvel podcast, there is little room for criticism here, but the enthusiasm and passion the hosts have for all things Marvel is a refreshing listen.

Marveling at Marvel's Marvels

The Marveling at Marvels podcast logo.

One of the more unique Marvel podcasts a fan will find is Marveling at Marvel’s Marvels. This podcast has two friends talking about a Marvel character each week. Jonathan is a lifelong Marvel fan and Josef is someone who doesn’t like comics as he learns about the characters and calls out how ridiculous some of them are.

Jonathan explains the origins and storylines of each character to Josef, who takes it in and the two end up debating these characters, storylines, and sometimes, movies and TV shows. In the later episodes, Josef shows more knowledge based on past discussions. He comes to understand the stories more while the podcasts roll on, making the conversations even better. There are over 188 episodes as of June 2021.
