Animated series are easier to draw comparisons with Elden Ring's open world masterpiece, be they Japanese or western shows. These will often be rooted in fantasy, with dark storylines or unforgiving worlds that remind audiences of the Lands Between.

7 See Brings A Harsh World Through Humanity's Restrictions

See has a unique premise that separates it from most other shows within the fantasy genre. The premise lies within a broken generation of humanity, where a virus not only wiped out much of the world's population, but it caused their descendants to be born without sight.

A lack of sight suggests difficulty in performing everyday tasks, but mankind has adapted accordingly. Jason Momoa and the other actors express themselves without telling a story from their eyes, and do a stellar job. Through the sheer difficulty of surviving and the necessity of adapting, this harsh world and circumstances draw similarities to the Lands Between in Elden Ring.

The Witcher 3 became one of the most highly-rated games, thanks to it being a complete package of great story, compelling characters and an expansive world. Fans were both excited and worried when The Witcher was announced as a Netflix series adaptation, but it hasn't disappointed too much in its first two seasons.

Henry Cavill has excelled as Geralt of Rivia and the series has introduced many of the horrific monsters from the games and books, with impressive CGI and effects. Many of the monster designs are grotesque and terrifying enough to draw comparisons to those which roam the Lands Between in Elden Ring. Those who want to see plenty of magic and impressive weapons used in fights should certainly give The Witcher a go.

Magic exists in the world of The Wheel of Time but is limited to a few people. The Aes Sedai are a group of powerful women who can channel the One Power. They are seeking out the potential Dragon Reborn, who holds the key to either saving or breaking the world. The mystery surrounding magic and its multiple uses is also explored in Elden Ring. Players can choose to pursue Faith, Intelligence, or Arcane in honing their magic usage, and could certainly come up with builds similar to the Aes Sedai.

3 His Dark Materials Is Another Bleak & Grim World

His Dark Materials is a television series adaptation of Philip Pullman's novels of the same name, that premiered on the UK's BBC One channel in 2019. With two seasons to its name and a third anticipated in the future, His Dark Materials has featured many familiar faces, from James McAvoy and Lin-Manuel Miranda to Dafne Keen.

Following a child named Lyra, the series does a better job of telling the story than the Golden Compass movie had managed previously. While not outwardly dark in a brutal Elden Ring or Game Of Thrones way, it still has plenty of bleak and sad moments. Its vast worldbuilding and fantastical elements make it a must-watch for those who enjoy playing Elden Ring.

It was loved for its intensity, drama, stellar cast and extreme brutality. Game of Thrones rarely shied away from killing off important characters, and this left an underlying sense of dread that remained throughout the series.

Its bleak world, ferocious fantastical beasts, and tough fights will appeal to fans of Elden Ring. Additionally, the author of the novels that the show stemmed from, George R. R. Martin, was even used as a consultant for the worldbuilding of Elden Ring.

Stranger Things may well be apart from the general worldbuilding and aesthetics of Elden Ring, but its genres of supernatural horror and sci-fi fantasy can certainly be linked to that of the FromSoftware game. It's set in the 1980s of the real world but the introduction of alternate dimensions and monstrous creatures mold this into a bleak and unforgiving world.

Stranger Things can be watched on Netflix, and will certainly appeal to those who enjoy a mystery or thriller aspect to their action. Not only has it featured the likes of Winona Ryder, Sean Astin and David Harbour, but it has also made stars of its child actors.
