Even though the Hunter x Hunter anime came to a conclusion of sorts in 2014, the manga is considered "ongoing" despite being on yet another extended hiatus. Creator Yoshihiro Togashi's irregular updates have kept fans on edge for years—or decades, for those that have been keeping up with his story since day one.

Although the future of HxH remains ambiguous, ardent fans retain their optimism by cosplaying some of the series' most interesting characters. While the main protagonist, Gon Freecss, has an unruly hairstyle that's borderline impossible to recreate, here are 10 other Hunter x Hunter characters that have been cosplayed flawlessly.

10 Leorio

Leorio is perhaps the most normal character in all of HxH. In a world loaded with hunters, assassins, and Chimera Ants, he's simply a medical student whose ultimate goal is to become a doctor. While he's not the most impressive fighter, he's got a heart of gold nestled behind the selfish persona he exudes.

Cosplayer Roberto Gambardella (@mentis85) tackled Leorio's look from the Hunter Exam Arc with an accurate outfit and his token suitcase. The ensemble is completed by the long spiky hair and the unmistakable glasses that solely belong to this character. The thin eyebrows also give Roberto an older appearance, which correlates with Leorio's running gag of looking far older than he actually is.

9 Biscuit Krueger (True Form)

This Biscuit Krueger cosplay is shockingly precise and humorously creative. While Bisky prefers a child-like appearance for her day-to-day activities, her true form is terrifyingly muscular. Therefore, it makes sense that a bodybuilder like Chayse (@bulkin_snorlax) brings this particular cosplay to life better than most would.

Biscuit's muscular form remains one of the most mind-blowing revelations in a series full of twists and turns. While many fans cosplay young Bisky, Chayse's recreation of her outfit in her true form is equal parts impressive and formidable. Perhaps he could even demolish Bara like the character he's portraying did in the Greed Island Arc.

8 Kikyo Zoldyck

Kikyo Zoldyck is an awful person and an even worse mother, but she played a heavy hand in the development of Killua's assassin abilities. One of her signature looks involves a bandaged face, which was the result of her son rebelling and attacking her. That's pretty much all that needs to be known about her parenting skills.

Asmaa (@meisho.hijabcos), a Tunisian cosplayer, recreated Kikyo's appearance with a detailed purple gown and an equally majestic broad-brimmed hat. Aside from the bandages, the most important facial feature is the electronic visor that covers her eyes. Naturally, Asmaa crafted one just like it to complete her costume.

7 Silva Zoldyck

As the head of the Zoldyck family, Silva is levelheaded and calculating, albeit not entirely emotionless. He has a soft spot for his son Killua, who is the heir to his family of assassins. Silva displays genuine compassion in a handful of moments throughout the series, which makes him one of the better Zoldycks by default.

A cosplayer named Tyki (@halfasailor) put his makeup skills to the test and transformed into a mind-boggling Silva that looks exactly like the animated version. As a matter of fact, it's remarkable that Tyki is a living, breathing human being and not a character on one of Togashi's pages.

6 Kurapika

As the last survivor of the Kurta Clan, Kurapika holds a lot of anger and hatred in his heart; the desire to avenge his clan is what propels him throughout the whole series. Despite this anguish, Kurapika is one of the most intelligent characters on Hunter x Hunter.

A Chinese cosplayer (@heiletengsilang) captured Kurapika's melancholic disposition and pensive glare. The wig is accurate and realistic, the outfit is well-made, and the chains complete the ensemble. However, it's the Scarlet Eyes that truly tie this cosplay together. After all, recovering the remaining Eyes is Kurapika's main objective and you can't do an effective cosplay without a nod to them.

5 Chrollo Lucilfer

Chrollo is one of Hunter x Hunter's most notable villains, but the anime doesn't allow him nearly as much screen time as he deserves. He's the founder and leader of the notorious Phantom Troupe, a gang that Kurapika is set on annihilating. Chrollo is alarmingly calm and perceptive, even during unfavorable situations.

While Chrollo has a handful of elaborate looks, Rey Fukuda (@rey.fukuda) focused on the more casual outfit that the villain wore when he met Neon Nostrade to steal her Nen abilities. The devil is in the details with this cosplay. The wig, the signature earrings, and the forehead tattoo are spot-on. Yet, it's Fukuda's detached stare that really converts him into the Chrollo we love to hate.

4 Illumi Zoldyck

Illumi Zoldyck is a ruthless assassin who rarely shows any emotion outside of bloodlust. While attempting to keep Killua on a path of darkness and cruelty, he ends up becoming one of his brother's most prominent enemies.

Unlike most other characters, a good Illumi cosplay relies heavily on the contact lenses as opposed to just a costume or a wig. Granted, all components are important, but you can't dress up as the stoic Zoldyck brother without investing in some unnerving pupil-less contacts. Canadian cosplayer Victoria (@tempestcosplay) knew this and she made an incredible Illumi, even down to the inclusion of the large pins.

3 Hisoka

Hisoka is one of the most fascinating villains in anime, displaying a bloodlust so extraordinary it's a miracle that he's able to restrain himself from killing the entire character list. The magician's Bungee Gum ability is the core of his power, and he uses it time and time again to either kill his victims or toy with them.

Hisoka's jester appearance is relatively easy to recreate... from the neck down. The makeup, the angular eyebrows, the perfectly coifed wig, and the devilish glare are all necessary to nail the villain's aesthetic. Hungarian cosplayer Minako (@minako_shizu) does just that with a captivating Hisoka get-up that does the character justice.

2 Killua Zoldyck

Killua Zoldyck is essentially Gon Freecss' other half. The pair become best friends over the course of the series to form a bond that drives the majority of the story. While he is still technically an assassin, Killua ran away from home because he was tired of being a killing machine.

Any search involving Killua cosplay will inevitably lead back to cosplayer Seunghyo's extraordinary work. Sure, the wig is well-made and the Hunter Exam outfit is a welcome throwback, but the facial resemblance is uncanny and propels this cosplay to crazy heights. The sharp, blood-soaked nails are also nods to Killua's penchant for ripping hearts out.

1 Neferpitou

Neferpitou was a playful but cruel Chimera Ant that launched Gon into a fit of rage that aged him into an adult version of himself. Pitou's gender was undefined, but they were a human-like cat whose sole purpose was to guard the Chimera Ant King.

Canadian HxH fan Emily makes an excellent Pitou in every way imaginable. For starters, the wig and the cat ears are perfect. The blue overcoat is accurate and she wears red contacts to emulate Pitou's disarming glare. The most impressive details are around the knees where Emily made sure to recreate the cat's insect-like legs. It's almost impossible to separate the cosplay from the character and that's how you know you've done a phenomenal job.
