New Girl premiered in 2011 and ran until 2018 and featured some of the funniest friendships on television. Fans quickly grew to love the four silly and very different roommates: Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel; Nick, played by Jake Johnson; Winston, played by Lamorne Morris; and Schmidt, played by Max Greenfield.

Other characters played important roles as well, and although the characters would get into crazy situations, in and out of relationships, and deal with fights, overall the story revolved around friendship. New Girl has some of the best, most genuine friendships of any sitcom, and these characters would all do anything for each other, despite their differences.

10 Schmidt and Robby Were Mutual Exes Who Bonded

Robby and Schmidt, New Girl

Schmidt and Robby both dated Cece Parekh, model and Jess's childhood best friend, at different points. They eventually bonded over both having been dumped by Cece and developed an unlikely friendship. Usually, men in love with the same woman dislike each other, but not these two.

Schmidt and Robby, unfortunately, used this bond to spy on one of Cece's dates, in this case with a man her mother arranged for her to meet. They then tried to ruin the families' first meeting. Robby shows up a few more times throughout the series, often tagging along to events the roommates throw, but his friendship with Schmidt always remains.

9 Winston And Furguson The Cat Have A Special Bond

Winston gets Furguson the cat when he pet-sits for his girlfriend Daisy, before finding out she is cheating on him. When she admits to it, Winston takes Furguson as his own, and he becomes a permanent fixture in the loft. Before long, Winston loves Furguson like a son.

Winston and Furguson have the kind of relationship that many pet parents can relate to, loving their pets like their children. Winston even throws Furguson a cat bachelor party before he gets neutered, and he tries to get him signed up as an animal actor for Hollywood. These two truly have a great relationship, and Winston would not be the character he is without Furguson.

8 Nick And Jess Define Friends-To-Lovers

Nick and Jess very close in New Girl

Nick and Jess start the series disliking each other, as their personalities are completely different. Nick is grumpy and lazy, while Jess is a peppy middle school teacher who loves colors and polka dots. However, living together, they begin to develop a subversive and healthy relationship.

Within a few episodes, Jess is already trying to deny her feelings for Nick. As the show progresses, the two go through many ups and downs, disliking each other, liking each other, dating, breaking up, and several in-between states as well. Through it all, they always remain friends and do whatever they can to help each other, even with other relationships.

7 Schmidt and Winston Bicker Like Brothers

Schmidt and Winston obviously love each other, as they've been friends for years, with Nick acting as their mutual tether. However, the two of them often bicker over little things. This allows for some hilarious moments, like when Schmidt confronts Winston about how intense he gets when he's starting a puzzle.

Schmidt is also the first person to tell Winston about his color-blindness when Winston thinks his green shoes are brown. Winston then reveals that he thinks Kermit the Frog is a brown frog. Schmidt then says, "If you think your shoes are brown, what color do you think you are?" leading to a lot of self-reflection from Winston. They also have some sweet moments, showing that they do love each other like brothers.

They have fought before, like when Jess admitted to not liking Cece's stuck-up model friends, or when Cece did not tell Jess about her relationship with Schmidt. However, they always reconcile and end up just as strong as they were before. It is important for young women, especially women living with three men, to have a strong female best friend, and Cece and Jess provide that for each other.

5 Winston And Cece Are Unexpected And Amazing

Winston and Cece have an unexpected fan-favorite friendship. The two know each other through Jess, as Cece is Jess's best friend and Winston is her roommate. Throughout the first few seasons, they don't interact a lot, but in the last few seasons, they develop an amazing friendship.

When Cece reveals that she is still in love with Schmidt, but Schmidt is dating Fawn, Winston acts as her wingman, trying to get the two back together. Most notable is his voicemail to Cece, where he tells her Schmidt "dropped Fawn like a bad habit," encouraging her to reach out and admit her feelings to him. Later on, Winston becomes one of Cece's bridesmaids. The two are hilarious together and prove that mutual friends can create great friendships.

4 Coach And Jess Start Out With Nothing In Common But Build A Great Bond

Coach and Jess, New Girl

At the start of the show, Coach and Jess do not get along, and Coach often states how annoying he finds Jess. However, later on in the series when Jess and Nick are dating, Jess sets out to become friends with Coach and proves that she is not just his friend's girlfriend.

Jess and Coach end up bonding over shared interests, and Jess even gets the sports-obsessed Coach a job as the physical education teacher at her middle school. Although he starts the job by yelling at the children, he eventually settles into the role and they become great work friends, often relying on each other in and outside of work.

Schmidt has a very obvious crush on Cece from the first moment he meets her, not shying away from showing his attraction. She denies his advances for a long time, before eventually giving in. Their relationship is very on-again, off-again throughout the entirety of the show, though they end up getting married and having a daughter.

Like Jess and Nick, through all of their ups and downs, Cece and Schmidt remain friends. They even help each other through other relationships while they are apart, and are often seen together because of their friendships with Nick and Jess. Their friendship leads to a beautiful life together.

Schmidt loves Nick so much, going out of his way to pick up things he sees that he thinks Nick will like and generally doing things to make Nick happy. One of their biggest fights occurred when Schmidt got fed up with Nick not noticing the things he does to make Nick happy, culminating in the infamous "gave me cookie, got you cookie" argument. Overall, they have a beautiful friendship that can not be replaced.

1 All Four Roommates Bring Something To The Table

New Girl Roommates

Things begin a little awkward at the beginning of the show, but the four roommates quickly fall into a very tight friendship. Jess brings a motherly, fun energy; Nick is more grounded; Schmidt is spotless and tidy, and Winston is hilarious and sweet.

The four of them bond over their antics, and especially have a great time during their games of True American, the game that makes no sense to anyone but them. One of the sweetest moments of the show was when Jess was upset about a breakup at a Christmas party, and the roommates and Cece bring her to Candy Cane Lane. This road is full of Christmas lights and decorations, and they scream at homeowners to turn their lights on just to make Jess happy. It shows the lengths they will all go for each other and they are truly a great group of friends.
