American heroes from Marvel comics have dominated the genre for decades, while other countries' iconic spandex-wearing vigilantes rarely get the same love. Britain especially hasn't been that well-represented in the MCU.

I's not like there isn't a wealth of British heroes for Marvel Studios to use, though, and it's only a matter of time before they get their cinematic debut.

Updated on June 25, 2022 by Scoot Allan: The Timeless one-shot starred Kang the Conqueror and teased some interesting new developments in Marvel's future. One thing teased was the inclusion of British hero Miracleman in the mainstream Marvel universe. While the character has existed outside continuity for years, his return might add yet another British hero to Marvel's roster. Miracleman would join a few other memorable characters whose British heritage might not be as obvious as characters like Captain Britain.

15 Lord Kevin Plunder Was A British Royal Before He Became Ka-Zar

Ka-Zar Lord of the Savage Land

Something everyone forgets about Ka-Zar is his royal heritage. Originally known as Lord Kevin Plunder, Ka-Zar was the child of a wealthy royal family from England. However, when they first discovered the Savage Land, Kevin's parents were killed and he was left alone.

Kevin would be found and raised by a mutant sabretooth tiger named Zabu, and he would take on the name Ka-Zar. He would eventually become the lord of the Savage Land, which only further honored his royal origins as a British lord.

14 Brian Braddock Protects The Omniverse As The Mystical Captain Avalon

Brian Braddock as Captain Avalon

Brian Braddock first appeared as Captain Britain after he got his powers from Merlin. When he was near death, the wizard of old came to him and told him that he would help him survive if he agreed to become Britain's next champion. To do so, he was offered a choice: either take the Amulet of Right or pick the Sword of Might. Braddock, being a scholar, chose the amulet.

Braddock served as Captain Britain and the leader of the omniversal Captain Britan Corps for years, though he was forced to give up his amulet to his sister. He later chooses the Sword of Might when given the option again, transforming him into Captain Avalon.

Anthony Ludgate was born and raised in England before heading to the states so he could attend Harvard University. There, he earned his medical degree, but quickly found a new calling. Ludgate became obsessed with ancient Celtic stories about druids and sought to learn more about their ways.

He trained with the Ancient One, though fell behind Doctor Strange who would become the Sorcerer Supreme. Still, Ludgate gained incredible magical power and officially changed his name, becoming Dr. Druid. While he never had as big of a magical presence in the Marvel Universe as Doctor Strange, Dr. Druid is still a powerful British hero.

12 Motormouth And Killpower First Appeared In Marvel UK Stories

Motormouth and Killpower from Marvel UK

The Marvel UK line of comics introduced a few new British heroes who operated in an adjacent continuity. Marvel UK's adventures could crossover with mainstream Marvel heroes, but the line mostly stayed within its own connected storylines. Two of the most popular heroes from Marvel UK were Motormouth and Killpower.

Harley Davis was a foul-mouthed teenager who could project a powerful sonic scream while also opening portals across dimensions. She was joined by an assassin from the Mys-Tech organization named Killpower. Incredibly strong but with the mind of a child, Killpower was convinced to join Motormouth in her fight against Mys-Tech.

11 Blade Was Originally Born In London And Even Worked With MI-13

Blade the Vampire Hunter jumping into battle.

Wesley Snipes isn't British, but Blade is. Much like Hughie in The Boys, Blade was yank-washed, and, unless Mahershala Ali puts on a fake accent, the same is bound to happen in the MCU. In the comics, Eric Brooks was born in Soho, London, making Blade a British superhero even if he tends to interact with the American heroes more.

This Vampire hunter has played in the big leagues in his home country of England too. Following the Skrull's Secret Invasion, he joined MI:13 to fight back against the evil forces plaguing the country in the wake of the alien shapeshifters' defeat.

10 Spider-Woman Was Born In England Before Her Hydra Parents Moved

Jessica Drew as Spider-Woman

Much like Blade, Jessica Drew tends to play ball with the Americans more often than the Brits, teaming up with the Avengers and residing in the US of A. In all fairness, she moved out of England when she was only a year old to Transia, which is in southeast Europe.

Spider-Woman's father was a member of Hydra, and her time with them, S.H.I.E.LD., and The Avengers is convoluted, with lots of Skrull and double-agent shenanigans. Nonetheless, she is technically a British hero.

9 Dark Angel Specializes In Blending Mysticism With Technology

Shevaun Haldane as Dark Angel

Fans might know Dark Angel through Psylocke or Iron Man; she's a British hero born in Darkmoor, England, and got her powers following a clash with Mephisto that resulted in her father being killed. Her powers are rooted in mysticism and the supernatural rather than science, as is the case with a lot of the American heroes.

Shevaun Haldane got her powers from a being called the Dark Angel who gave her a fragment of the Fabric of the Universe which became her costume. Through this suit, she is made more powerful and knowledgeable, which bolsters her into superhero territory. Dark Angel specializes in blending magic with technology, which made her a useful consultant for heroes like Iron Man.

8 Captain Midlands Got His Powers From The British Super Soldier Program

Captain Midlands from the British Super Soldier Program

There's Captain Britain, Red Guardian, Captain America, Union Jack, Captain Canuck (not Marvel), US Agent, the Patriot and so many other heroes that are proud of their country. However, Captain Midlands is one of the more obscure and hilarious ones of the bunch. Sid Ridley didn't get his powers through Merlin like Captain Britain, but through the British Super Soldier program.

Much like many others in the British roster, Ridley ended up working with MI-13, but he was more of a background character than the others. He fought fairies in Hillfort and even killed an extra-dimensional Jack the Ripper. British Marvel gets weird and wacky, which is exactly why it needs to be adapted.

7 Union Jack Is A Patriotic Legacy Hero Who First Appeared During WWI

Union Jack from Marvel Comics

Union Jack quite literally wears a Union Jack for a costume and it is spectacular. There have been many to hold the mantle as it's something passed down from generation to generation, not unlike the Black Knight. Joseph Chapman is the current Union Jack from Liverpool, England. He was roped into the superhero world when he visited a friend's ancestral home.

There, he was told all about Kenneth's grandfather and uncle who were once Union Jacks, Ken's mother Spitfire, and even their villainous family-member Baron Blood. Kenneth passed the mantle of Union Jack to Joey, deciding that he was a worthy contender fit to continue the legacy after he passed.

6 Lady Jacqueline Falsworth Crichton Is The Vampiric Speedster Spitfire

Spitfire from Marvel Comics

Jaqueline Falsworth was the daughter of the original Union Jack. She gained powerful abilities after an attack from her uncle Baron Blood required her to take a blood transfusion from the first Human Torch, the android named Jim Hammond. His artificial blood kickstarted her own powers, and she became a powerful speedster known as Spitfire who worked with the Invaders.

She eventually realized that her encounter with Baron Blood had also given her some vampiric gifts like immortality. Jaqueline was thankfully able to control her bloodlust, though it made her one of Marvel's fastest speedsters. She continued to operate as Spitfire in the modern age alongside teams like the New Invaders and MI-13.

5 Elsa Bloodstone Is A Monster Hunter Who Carries On Her Father's Mission

Elsa Bloodstone climbs over corpses in Marvel Comics

Elsa's father was from the Hyborian Age, and when he discovered a meteorite that crashed into Earth, his entire life changed. He fought off Tae Kwan S'yn for this strange rock and amidst their clash, the meteor exploded and part of it launched into Bloodstone's chest, making him an immortal. He traveled the world searching for Tae, slaying monsters as he did.

Knowing that one day the Hellfire Helix would come to Earth and that he was chosen to be its host, he killed himself. Before he did, he met Elise, and the two wed. Eventually, she gave birth to his child, and he left her with a choker that held a fragment of the Bloodgem. Elsa Bloodstone followed in her father's footsteps and hunted down monsters.

4 Dr. Faiza Hussain Wields The Legendary Sword Of Arthur To Become Excalibur

Faiza Hussain as Excalibur vs vampires

Marvel Studios are killing it with representation going forward, as Muslim heroine Ms. Marvel recently appeared in her own show on Disney+. Another character that they could use down the line is Dr. Faiza Hussain, an English healer who wielded the legendary sword Excalibur after pulling it from the stone.

During Secret Invasion, Faiza was working in London as a doctor to help people during the conflict. Dane Whitman/Black Knight helped her amidst an attack from the Skrull. She not only wields the powerful sword Excalibur, but also has healing powers that have helped her teammates on MI-13.

3 Black Knight Was A British Identity Taken Up By An American Hero

Dane Whitman as The Black Knight

Dane Whitman made his appearance in Eternals as a British hero played by Game of Thrones actor Kit Harrington. Dane is usually an American who took up his family's legacy as the Black Knight which was a mantle passed down each generation.

Black Knight wields the Ebony Blade, a cursed sword that manipulates its wielder the more unnecessary blood that it sheds. The blade is incredibly strong and Whitman has a base level of magic knowledge, but he has no actual superpowers or super strength. Yet, that hasn't stopped Black Knight from joining a few Marvel teams over the years.

2 Pete Wisdom Was A Secret British Agent And A Powerful Mutant

An image of Mi-13 agent Pete Wisdom during the Revolutionary War.

A former member of teams like Excalibur and X-Force, Pete Wisdom is best known for his work as a British secret agent. Not only was Wisdom well-trained in espionage, he was a mutant who could generate deadly hot knives of thermal energy from his fingertips.

Wisdom worked with MI-6 and helped found the secretive Black Air organization. He spent some time working with various mutant teams before he returned to his original love of espionage as a member of MI-13. He recently set up a new S.T.R.I.K.E. Psi-Division on Krakoa to further assist the new mutant nation.

1 Elizabeth Braddock Was The Mutant Psylocke Before She Became Captain Britain

Betsy Braddock as Captain Britain

Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock is Brian Braddock's mutant twin sister. She was formerly known as Psylocke and a powerful member of the X-Men. Betsy's a telepath, but she's also a highly trained fighter as well. Psylocke's worn a few costumes over the years, as her mind was placed in the body of a ninja named Kwannon.

Betsy eventually regained her original body, but she had yet another big change to come. Her brother Brian was forced to give up the Amulet of Right to her, allowing her to become the new Captain Britain. She embraced her new role first as the leader of Excalibur, then the Captain Britain Corps and more recently, the Knights of X.
