10 DEATH NOTE

The brainchild of writer Obha and illustrator Obata, Death Note always tops coveted anime lists. And why ever not? It is a modern anime classic that debates the idea of justice. Other recurring themes are morality and the philosophy of life. It's an extremely profound tale that rests on the theme of who deserves to live and who deserves to die. Should a human being take charge of that? Ultimately, the idea of justice.

The premise is mostly a cat and mouse game of a high school prodigy Light Yagami and a detective named L. The high schooler Light Yagami possesses a notebook which when written on with a person's name, can actually kill that person.

Next is the list is Bleach which adapts the 54 volumes of Tite Kubo's manga by the same name. The story tracks Shounen protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki's downward spiral. His family is attacked by an evil spirit that devours human souls. It is during the course of these events that Ichigo meets a Soul Reaper Rukia Kuchiki who makes him an offer he can't refuse. As the story progresses forward, Ichigo makes startling discoveries about himself and those he loves.

Since the story is stretched over 350 episodes,  there are a couple of filler episodes in the anime. Other than that, Bleach is a brilliant anime to watch.

7 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

Fullmetal Alchemist is a wonderful take on the Law of Equivalence/ quid pro quo/something for something. It is a faithful adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's works. The story is fairly simplistic, to begin with, two brothers Edward and Alphonse use alchemy to resurrect their dead mother. But the experiment goes terribly wrong for them. Edward loses an arm and a leg. Alphonse loses his entire body, forcing him to fuse his soul with body armor for time being. The only way these brothers can bring back their original selves is by finding the Philosopher's stone. So take up the job that guarantees it the most, they join the country's militia.

An unfathomable battle and a complex arc, Fullmetal Alchemist is sheer brilliance.

6 INUYASHA

InuYasha is a wholesome anime, enjoyable to say the least. It is based on the manga written by Rumiko Takahashi. The story begins when a Kagome Higurashi is transported to the Sengoku period. This happens when a demon drags her into a cursed well at her family's shrine. Needless to say, Kagome's life is never the same again. Unbeknownst that inside her resides the wish-granting Shinkon jewel, she shatters it in an altercation with the demon.

With a hybrid dog InuYasha by her side, Kagome seeks to collect the shattered shards of the jewel, lest they fall into wrong hands.

You'll love InuYasha for the complexity of its characters, the romance and the hilarity.

5 SAMURAI CHAMPLOO

Mugen, Fuu, and Jin from Samurai Champloo.

Samurai Champloo comes from Shinichiro Watanabe, the director of Cowboy Bebop. Since the two are led by the same person, there are many structural similarities between the two. The Shounen anime tells the tale of Fuu Kasumi, a clumsy waitress, and two of her Samurai friends, Mugen and Jin. Whilst Mugen has a knack for wild cockfights, Jin is more of a composed Samurai. The eccentric three are set in the quest of the Samurai who, '"smells of sunflowers".

Adventures, action, and comedy follow, as fresh troubles arise in the story. Samurai Champloo makes for an entertaining series.

After his resurrection, Yuusuke is given a new duty, to oversee the demons that slip into the living world and cause trouble. Thus begins an epic adventure tale of Yuusuke who takes orders from an infant- lookalike Koenma.

The elements that draw you to Yuu Yuu Hakusho are its unique storyline and character development. There are 4 story arcs for the series, in total and the 90s ambiance is to die for.

3 TRIGUN

The greatest stories to be ever written, Trigun combines action and adventure like no other. At the beginning of the series, you are introduced to Vash, a ditzy donut-loving character. He traverses No Man's Land with his two insurance assistants Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson. And get this: their job is to minimize the casualties that Vash may cause. Additionally, a trio of legendary assassins is sent after Vash and his buds. Wait, what?

Earlier, Vash was known as the 'Humanoid Typhoon', who's laid cities to waste and killed thousands in the wake. Trigun is a western-themed anime, jam-packed with gun battles. The characters and comedy make it all the more interesting to watch. Every second episode beings in a different tale, and oh, Vash has a $60,000,0000,000 bounty slapped on him!

2 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: THE BROTHERHOOD

Fullmetal Alchemist: The Brotherhood comes from the Fullmetal franchise. It preserves the Shounen essence from Fullmetal Alchemist, but the story takes a different leap here. Set in the land of Armestris, Edward and Alphonse are three years deep into the hunt for the Philosopher's stone. This is the stone that will set their bodies right. And this time around, they have made allies: the goofy (but mysteriously dark) Colonel Roy Mustang, Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye and Lieutenant Colonel Mae's Hughes.

But for the Elric brothers, working with Roy means aiding and abetting his genocidal campaign in Armestris.  As a result, Edward and Alphonse come face to face with their morality. Amidst all this, they learn that the army itself follows orders of an ancient evil being called 'Father'.

Full Metal Alchemist: The Brotherhood ends on a happy note, mostly on par with Hiromu Arakawa's manga.

1 COWBOY BEBOP

Cowboy Bebop will always be number one for ample reasons. Given that Adult Swim caters to the American populace, so it's natural for a western-themed adventure to figure as number 1. But it truly deserves the number 1 position on the list.

A rag-tag team of five bounty hunters aids the Inter Solar System Police to maintain peace in 2017. Known as Cowboys, they hunt the outer space for criminals that may pose a threat to status-quo established by the colonizers'.

A truly fascinating classic with music, art, characters, and stories that will stay with you forever.
