The 1990s is a decade that many people are nostalgic for. That's probably due to the fact that those people grew up in the 90s, but no one can deny that a lot of good media came out during that decade. Of course, this includes anime. Anime in the 1990s had a certain feel and aesthetic that is hard to duplicate now.

However, if the vibe of 90s anime could be duplicated, there would be some welcome reboots or additions to beloved series. Some anime are dearly missed out of nostalgia and others didn't get the chance that others did due to cancelation. Some series from the 90s would benefit from new episodes, and fans likely wouldn't complain about new episodes of their favorite classics.

10 Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water Needs More Love

An image from Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water.

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water was an early 90s gem. It was directed by Hideaki Anno of Neon Genesis Evangelion fame and borrowed quite a bit from the works of Jules Verne, especially Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea. The series was a precursor to Evangelion's dark themes and even went to some dark places itself.

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water needs to be continued or rebooted. It's a series that often goes under the radar for newer anime fans, which is unfortunate. Nadia had great characters, an inventive steampunk world, and a creative premise.

9 Some New Medabots Would be Cool

An image from Medabots.

Medabots was one of the many toyetic anime to come out in the late 90s and early 2000s. The kids built robots that fought each other, and the robots, like the rough-around-the-edges Metabee, lived in a society with humans. Medabots had cool battles and was one of the better toy-based shows.

With the toy and video game landscape as it is now, it may be odd to ask for new Medabots. While it did end on a weird note, the anime seemed to be over and done with. Medabots could transition to a free-to-play game where players could grind for better parts and be the best Robattlers they could be. An anime could easily tie into that; it could easily introduce anime to a new generation.

8 Gundam Wing Should Get A Continuation

Gundam Wing was one of the first Gundam series to reach American shores. It featured great mech battles and political discourse, even if the characters were a little lacking. The music was by far one of the best parts with two great opening themes.

Giving Gundam Wing another season would give the series an opportunity to make sense of its political landscape. The entire world was made into one nation, and it's very likely that not everyone is happy about that. Some more development for the Gundam meisters would be welcome. too.

7 Utena Could Use Some Explanation

Revolutionary Girl Utena was a fever dream of an anime that ran in the 1990s to reasonable fanfare. It had stunning visuals, a wholesome romance, and an epic story. It also explored LGBT+ themes at a time when it was quite rare to see them on television.

Having a new season of Revolutionary Girl Utena would give modern fans a chance to see the epic story and drama of a very good anime. Some directorial choices may even change considering LGBT+ themes are met with greater acceptance now. Some new Revolutionary Girl Utena episodes would be much appreciated by fans of classic anime.

6 Flame Of Recca Deserves A New Season

Recca Hanabishi and his friends press forward in Flame of Recca.

Flame of Recca was a 90s anime and manga that not many people talk about. It was a manga about ninja battles long before Naruto. It featured some great characters and great fights featuring unique powers from magical artifacts. Flame of Recca is like Yu Yu Hakushobut with ninjas.

Flame of Recca was only 42 episodes and only covered a few of the manga's arcs. It may be a tad formulaic, but Flame of Recca should get a reboot or a new season at some point. The trials of Recca Hanabishi should be more easily accessible. Recca and pals have a lot to show fans if they were given the chance.

5 Great Teacher Onizuka Shouldn't Be In Detention

An image from Great Teacher Onizuka.

Great Teacher Onizuka is about a biker gang leader who became a school teacher for questionable reasons. Onizuka cares deeply for his students and shows it through his unorthodox teaching methods. He will do almost anything to help them, including suplexing the Vice Principal.

Great Teacher Onizuka needs a new season as soon as possible. The antics of Eikichi Onizuka were hilarious and fans could be treated to him dressing up like Doraemon and beating up thugs. Onizuka's story was only partially adapted, so getting the rest of the story, with or without a modern twist, could be something to look forward to.

4 The Vision Of Escaflowne Was A Great Isekai

An image from The Vision Of Escaflowne.

The Vision of Escaflowne was a 90s series that blended shonen and shojo elements all while being a cool isekai. A young girl from Earth is caught in a war between two powers and gets visions due to her pendant. The series is a rare science fantasy affair with both magic and giant mechs.

The Vision of Escaflowne could use another season to bring Van and Hitomi back together. It could be about the remnants of Zaibach after Isaac Newton died. Introducing these characters to a new generation could be quite easy in an isekai-flooded market. A new The Vision of Escaflowne anime could settle the romantic tension between Van and Hitomi as well.

Outlaw Star ended in an inconclusive manner. It seemed to be headed toward greater things, but it just ended and never continued. A new season could continue where the first left off and give fans even more space battles and explosions. Outlaw Star has a decent amount of popularity in North America, so new episodes would be quite the gift for those fans.

2 Yu Yu Hakusho Was A Definitive Shonen

Yu Yu Hakusho was an epic shonen series from the early 1990s that gained popularity in North America in the 2000s. The cool battles and Yusuke's one-liners made it a favorite among shonen fans. The series had a clear ending, but fans wonder what happened next for Yusuke and his friends.

New Yu Yu Hakusho episodes would mean more battles with powerful demons and more adventures with Yusuke and the gang. They could also expand the lore of both the spirit world and the demon world. Bringing such a classic anime back into the mainstream could also spark interest in other classic anime.

Bell Peppers and Beef in Cowboy Bebop.

Cowboy Bebop is one of the most popular anime in the West — so much so that it got a live-action adaptation through Netflix. Although the live-action version was poorly received, the anime is still beloved even by the most casual observers.

Getting some more Cowboy Bebop would excite practically any anime fan. Whether Spike somehow lives through his last encounter of the series, or fans get a new protagonist alongside Jet and Faye, some new episodes in the same style would be a welcome addition to any fan's watchlist.
