Following news of Miura's death, Kouji Mori -- a close friend of Miura -- announced he would continue Berserk based on information relayed to him by the series' late creator. Studio Gaga, Miura's production studio, took over illustration duties. After a nine-month hiatus following Miura's death, Mori and Studio Gaga released Chapter 365, “Lull of the Waning Moon,” in June 2022. Six more chapters were released before entering a three-month hiatus that began in January.

Miura passed away on May 6, 2021, from acute aortic dissection. He was 54 years old. News of Miura's passing put the spotlight back on the topic of health issues regarding manga creators, particularly those physically suffering from burnout. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, believes the series could continue without him if he were to suddenly pass away. Oda's concerning statement from a 2017 interview resurfaced after the author announced his struggle with sleep deprivation in March.
