Bernthal's Punisher Wields Non-Lethal Item in New Set Photos

When photos of the upcoming Netflix "Punisher" show are released, you expect to see Frank Castle armed with something dangerous. A handgun would make sense, or an assault rifle. Maybe something grittier, like a sawed off shotgun, or something more intimate, like a KA-BAR knife. There's an outside chance you'd catch him with an every day improvised implement of death. To be honest, in the very competent hands of Frank Castle, almost anything can be made into a weapon. Still, this one strains credulity.

In the latest photos from the set of the Netflix series, John Berenthal's deadly vigilante seems to be armed with... a bouquet of flowers. The Punisher is a man of many skills, but such a deliberately (and dare I say romantic?) collection of blooms looks to be the work of a professional florist and not a murdering sociopath. It's possible that Castle has a secret hydroponic garden in his safe house to maximize romantic potential, but it's more likely that he purchased them from a shop.

This, of course, leads us to ask: for whom? The arrangement is the wrong colors to leave on the grave of his murdered wife Maria. It's confirmed that Deobrah Ann Woll is reprising her "Daredevil" role of Karen Page on the "Punisher" show, perhaps the flowers are for her. That would make sense. Karen wasn't too happy with Frank last time they crossed paths. He would need to buy her some flowers as an apology for his behavior.

Of course, there's always the outside chance that the flowers are meant to lull us into a false sense of security. After all, anything could be turned into a deadly weapon in the hands of Frank Castle. Take a look for yourself and ask yourself if Frank looks like a man with good intentions.

Bernthal’s Punisher will return in his own Netflix series, set to debut in 2017. The show is currently filming in New York City, and has confirmed much of its supporting cast.
