Warner Bros.' Justice League continues to suffer a poor reputation for a number of reasons, many of which relate to behind-the-scenes issues. Those issues extended to the 2017 film's ensemble cast, including actor Ben Affleck, who recently called his time on the project the "worst experience."

In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Affleck discussed his personal struggles and how they directed his career as an actor. It was the pressures attached that caused him to depart from playing Batman and directing the solo film. "I looked at it and thought, 'I'm not going to be happy doing this. The person who does this should love it.' You're supposed to always want these things, and I probably would have loved doing it at 32 or something. But it was the point where I started to realize it's not worth it." It was then that he reflected on his priorities.

However, the low point for Affleck came during Justice League, owing to a variety of personal issues and pressures. "That was a bad experience because of a confluence of things: my own life, my divorce, being away too much, the competing agendas and then [director] Zack [Snyder]’s personal tragedy... and the reshooting. It just was the worst experience. It was awful. It was everything that I didn't like about this. That became the moment where I said, 'I'm not doing this anymore.'" Although, the actor made sure to clarify that any film would have amounted to a similar experience for him at the time, saying, "It's not even about, like, 'Justice League' was so bad. Because it could have been anything."

Justice League received mixed reviews upon release and continued to be criticized for deviating from original director Zack Snyder's vision. The director was forced to depart from the project owing to a family tragedy -- the death of his daughter, Autumn. Warner Bros. replaced him with director Joss Whedon and made significant alterations to both the overall tone of Justice League and its story thanks to major cuts and reshoots. Eventually, Snyder's version of the film was completed and released on HBO Max.

Zack Snyder's Justice League introduced villains such as Darkseid and DeSaad, while providing Steppenwolf with more complexity and depth. In addition, the film teased Martian Manhunter, although the character's appearance was initially intended for Green Lantern, with actor Wayne T. Carr even filming the scene. Warner Bros. rejected the Lantern's inclusion as the studio has other plans for the superhero.

Zack Snyder's Justice League is available for streaming on HBO Max.
