Ben 10 Vs. The Universe: The Movie follows the modern incarnation of the superhero, as the ten-year-old tries to save the world from a massive asteroid that is later revealed to be a ship carrying the powerful villain Vilgax. This includes using his newest modification on a previously introduced transformation: Omni-Naut Jetray.
A CBR-exclusive animatic clip from the production of the film delves into Omni-Naut Jetray's first flight. In the behind-the-scenes look at the film, Ben excitedly (but shakily) learns how to control this new rocket-propelled take on his previously established Jetray form.
Initially, he seems to have it well enough under control, causing some slapstick trouble for a local fisherman. As Ben begins to realize the full power and potential of this form, though, the young hero finds himself hitting surprising new speeds that risk distracting him from the greater mission at hand: going to space to save the world.
The silly sequence embodies the kind of fun superhero action that has always been at the heart of Ben 10 as a franchise, and particularly in the current incarnation of the series. First premiering globally in 2016 and in the United States in 2017, the series currently airs on Cartoon Network. Ben 10 vs. The Universe: The Movie pushes the hero further than he's ever been before -- especially after he realizes the full severity of the threat to not just his family, but the entire Earth.
According to the film's synopsis,
The action-packed movie focuses around a blast from Ben's past returning to do double the damage on Team Tennyson and planet Earth itself, forcing Ben to go interstellar to save the day. Meanwhile, Gwen and Grandpa Max team up to help protect the world in Ben's absence. But when our boy hero is confused for the villain in space, Ben must figure out a way to get back to Earth to help save it!
Ben 10 Versus the Universe: The Movie aired on Cartoon Network on Oct. 10 and is now available for digital purchase. The DVD-release of the film, which will include this storyboard animatic and other special features, releases on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
