Elizabeth Banks is bringing audiences back to Bedrock with a new take on The Flintstones.

Titled Bedrock, THR is reporting that Banks will star in and executive produce the new adult animated series for Warner Bros. Animation which will air on Fox. Banks will voice Pebbles, now a 20-something preparing for her dad's retirement as the town of Bedrock deals with the Stone Age transforming into the Bronze Age, which will be "harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm's club."

The series, which was first announced in 2019, will join Fox's growing list of adult-oriented animation. Lindsay Kerns (Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, DC Super Hero Girls) will write the pilot episode.

"Long before the Simpsons and Springfield, the Griffins and Quahog or even when the Belchers started serving burgers on Ocean Avenue, there were the Flintstones and Bedrock," Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said. "Their imprint on the animation universe is undeniable and the idea of adapting it for today's audience is a challenge we here at Fox are very much looking forward to taking on with Warner Bros., Elizabeth and Lindsay. No pressure whatsoever, really."

"The Flintstones are the first family of primetime animation," Executive VP alternative programming at Warner Bros. Animation Peter Girardi said. "Elizabeth and Lindsay have a brilliant take on these characters, and Fox and [Banks' company] Brownstone are the perfect partners to bring them back to primetime. This is going to rock (sorry)."

Along with rebooting yet another beloved franchise, the series will flesh out Fox's adult animation lineup, which is expanding to Mondays this summer with the debut of Housebroken, which focuses on a group of pets. It and the eventual release of Bedrock will join The Great NorthDuncanville and long-running shows The SimpsonsFamily Guy and Bob's Burgers. Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon is also working on an untitled animated series set in ancient Greece which will debut on the network in 2022.

Fox has long sought to reboot The Flintstones for the modern age. The original show, which was the first primetime animated series in the US, ran from 1960-1966 on ABC. In 2011, Fox and Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane attempted a reboot, but the show was delayed in 2012 and ultimately passed on. On May 1, Fox's free streaming site, Tubi, will begin airing the original Flintstones series.
