Mike Judge, the creator of the beloved, crude animated series Beavis and Butt-Head, explained that he doesn't think it would make sense for his characters to drop the "F-bomb."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Judge explained "You know, back with Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, we could have said the word "shit," but somehow, it just didn't seem like them." He continued, "I don't know, like there's something kind of naive and innocent about them that makes it work. There's just something funny about a bunch of stupid phrases like 'butt-wagon' or 'butt-munch.' We won't start playing with the F-word; we're not really changing it."

Beavis and Butt-Head, which premiered in 1993 on MTV, is returning for a revival show which is set to premiere on August 4. This comes just weeks after the latest installment in the franchise, a film titled Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, which follows the duo after they get launched 24 years into the future and accidentally become embroiled in a Deep State conspiracy.

Details on new Beavis and Butt-Head content came in 2020, almost a decade after the show had been canceled for a second time. Of the revival, ViacomCBS Entertainment and Youth Group President Chris McCarthy said "We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on adult animation at Comedy Central." McCarthy went on to say that "Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can't wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own."

The revival's creative team confirmed that the new Beavis and Butt-Head series will comprise at least two new seasons, as well as a spinoff film. Although the duo is now getting into Gen Z trouble, they are still voiced by Mike Judge and remain obsessed with heavy metal, crass humor and women.

Bringing the crude teens back two decades after their first TV appearance was a bold choice, but Judge is confident that it was the right time. "Maybe it's just time to get stupid again," he said. "There's been a lot of very kind of high-minded stuff for a while." He added that it all comes down to the fact that "people need to have a pure laugh right now."

The first two episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head are set to come to Paramount+ on Aug. 4 with a new episode debuting each week. Beavis and Butthead Do the Universe is currently available to stream on Paramount+.
