The creator of Beastars celebrated the series' latest circulation milestone with a new piece of art.Beastars creator Paru Itagaki announced on Twitter that her series has achieved a worldwide circulation of 7.5 million copies with a celebratory piece of art. The image was drawn in the black and white style of her manga and features the story's main protagonist, Legoshi. The image also features a background cameo from one of the leading characters of Itagaki's latest manga, Sanda. In the tweet the author wrote, "It's been a year since it was completed, and the cumulative circulation of Beastars has exceeded 7.5 million! Thank you very much. Stay tuned for the final chapter of the anime."RELATED: Kaiju No.8 Breaks 4 Million Copies In Circulation, Shatters Shonen Jump Record

The mention of a final chapter in the anime left some fans confused about the future of the popular Netflix adaptation. The Netflix series premiered in 2019, with a second season airing in the first half of 2021. Season 2 left off with a fair amount of material from the original manga still remaining to be adapted. Itagaki later clarified what she meant in her original tweet, writing, "A new chapter that was not the final chapter! Stay tuned for the new anime chapter!"

Itagaki's clarification confirms that Season 3 of the anime, which was officially announced in July, is not planned to be the final season of the series. This lines up with previous expectations for the show's length, which are based on the number of chapters from Itagaki's manga that still need to be adapted. While the anime has made slight alterations to the manga, including the occasional cut to its content, it has for the most part remained accurate to the source material. Season 3 of the anime has yet to receive any announcements regarding its official release date.

The series takes place in a world where anthropomorphized animals live together in a modern society. The manga explores issues such as discrimination and the battle between natural instincts and civilized empathy as it tells the story of Legoshi, a conflicted gray wolf, and Haru, a rabbit who has become a social outcast to her peers.

The Beastars manga concluded in 2020. Itagaki's new manga, Sanda, is currently published in Weekly Shonen Champion. The series presents a world in which the birthrate of humans has drastically fallen, and examines how this affects the lives of both older and younger generations. One of Sanda's leading characters, Fuyumura, can be seen standing behind Legoshi in Itagaki's new art.
