There have been many adaptations of Bram Stoker's Dracula over the last century. The Transylvanian count has continued to shape depictions of vampires in the horror genre. The BBC will soon present audiences with yet another adaptation of Dracula, one faithful to Stoker's famous novel.
A trailer for the upcoming miniseries was recently released, teasing blood, capes and gothic castles and all the horror tropes that Stoker helped to establish. After flashing dark rooms, twisted monsters and more, the teaser finally shows us the face of Dracula as he grips the face of his prey. "Try and stay calm," he says, with a sinister tone, "you're doing very well..."
The three-part miniseries is being developed in partnership with Netflix by BBC Sherlock creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat. The official Netflix description explains, "This retelling of the classic story follows Dracula from his origins in Eastern Europe to his battles with Van Helsing's descendent and beyond." Each episode is expected to run for approximately 90-minutes, much like Gatiss and Moffat's critically-acclaimed Sherlock series.
Executive produced by Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat, Sue Vertue and Ben Irving, Dracula stars John Heffernan, Dolly Wells, Joanna Scanlan, Sacha Dhawan, Jonathan Aris, Morfydd Clark, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and finally, Claes Bang as Count Dracula.
