WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Batwoman's Season 2 finale, "Power," which aired Sunday on The CW.

Batwoman star Javicia Leslie said the Season 2 return and departure of Kate Kane, the first Batwoman, was appropriate for the character.

"I love Kate's goodbye because it felt like it wasn't a goodbye forever. So, it's like to me, a real passing of the torch, a real passing of the cowl," Leslie said of last night's season finale. "And I don't think we ever really had that throughout the season, we never had a moment where Kate and Ryan were able to really pass the torch and say, 'It's your turn.'"

Leslie became the second Batwoman, Ryan Wilder, after Kane was presumed dead from a plane crash. Kane's first portrayer, Ruby Rose, left the series after Season 1. Wallis Day took on the role of Kane during Season 2. It was revealed that Kane had been abducted and held captive by Black Mask for months before her return on the Gotham scene -- albeit with her memories missing. In the finale, Kane gets her memories back and goes on a quest to locate her cousin Bruce Wayne -- the missing Batman.

Leslie said, "We really wanted to give the character its justice. And so, I think we did such a great job, and hiring Wallis was so cool because I feel like she just, not only fit the part, but just fit our family so easily, so [quickly]. And so, it's been really fun to be able to be Batwoman while also still being able to play with the character of the original Batwoman."

Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, Rachel Skarsten as Alice, Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox and Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton. Season 3 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
